Not even sure if this is in the right place but we'll give it a shot.
Getting the car dynoed June 8th, Just under 2 weeks before the bash
Yea im crazy! The shop Im having the car dynoed at is very reputable, and dyno most gm vehicles all the time. Even autos! They have an 8 sec Z06 that is auto
ANYWAY, since I have the 4 speed. Which gear should it be dynoed in 3rd? I heard it can be locked into gear? Thats what I hear mostly for our J's. Is this correct? I'm sure the shop knows what to do but I just want to make sure I know whats going on while this is all going on. Im hopeing Jeremy(skilz) has some input.
Thanks for any help, tips.

ive heard pretty much the same thing...
that shop will know what to do you get the trans to stay in gear... which really iirc you just leave it in the gear you want and it stays. well.. wont upshift, it will still downshift though...
id find out what gear is closest to 1 to 1 ratio and do it in that gear so your numbers are the most accurate.
I'm tired of wasting my time... now I'm breakin' free.
3rd is what I lock them in at using HPT...

Thats what they did to us auto's last year at the bash, locked in 3rd
Sweet, thanks fellas. I shall have vids and numbers soon

How much HP/Torque can the 4T40E handle anyway?
Don't buy from MANTAPART!!
There is no easy ways to get HP, no magic box or gizmo... And if you get more hp, there's no way to make your car still behave and sound like a stock one. More hp usually makes your car louder, more vibrations and harder to drive...but still people hope or think maby there's some magic way to have it all, comfort, stock sound and drive.
Supposedly 325tq, but numbers are disputed and the only way to find out is to push it. It's a horrible question to ask.
How do you "lock in" the gear using HPTuners? I couldn't get it to work whatsoever, it would always downshift. Unless of course you alter the tune itself to prevent downshifting...

Good question, Im not sure if anybody on here has ever built up their 4T40E besides me. Mine is fully built minus a valve body job. So we'll see. Im gonna push it, I want the maximum out of this damn car ha.

If that's what the torque-rating of 40 in the 4L40E's name means... I guess the 4L60E behind the LN2 in the S-trucks is overkill, huh?
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
I know a few people locally that have built up there's and they are on JBO so I'm sure there are lots....I never really thought about it unless I start making some big power... upgraded TC, tranny cooler, built up internals, etc..

i have been waiting for numbers out of this car for like 2 years now.
i dont think even david is as exited to see what shes got more than i
why? because its what i have to look forward to hahaha

Have there been any auto ld9's dyno over 400whp?? I know the type of dyno and are and all can make a difference, but whos been the closest, skilz??
I want more info David. What boost setting, what dyno, etc etc?? I dont wana wait to hear! lol

No one wants to share how exactly? It seems to me you can only prevent the car from upshifting to 4th using the VCM Scanner, and the only method of "locking the car in gear" is by altering the tune itself to prevent downshifting.

Going by the top WHP list looks like skilz just got 292 or so. Thats the closest I know of. Im sure there are others not on the org that prolly dynoed high with the auto.
Mike, Im not sure what kind of dyno IPS has where im going, its the kind with the rollers in the ground lol. Also im hoping to dyno at 20 psi. I can hold that fine with no problem now on the highway
We'll see if I can do that on the dyno.
Brad oh im excited alright to see what she can do, I just dont wanna get overly excited

Even so if he put close to 300 on from what Ive read only 8psi and like 320cc injectors, Im sure youll be near 400whp or over with a good tune.

No... When you lock it in, it stays there..... At the end of the run (when you stop the plotting), you unlock it... You can use a tech2 also... You don't want to change the tune to make it only drive in 4th. Doing that will destroy your trans in no time...

It definitely doesn't "stay there" when you hit
3rd in the
A4 Gear Select buttons. It doesn't even shift it to 3rd. The Table view shows
Current Gear: 3 but it could still be in 1 or 2, the car shifts, it just won't go past 3. It's nothing different than putting the car in 3 manually using the shifter. Once a certain throttle threshold has been breached, it downshifts. I tried everything. We kept doing pulls, kept downshifting.

maybe im missing something here but why is having it downshift an issue anyways? arent you pulling in third gear to try and see how much whp your making? so im lost.... the way i see it you leave the shifter at 3rd, go easy til you actually get to 3rd and then punch it all the way to redline. it will not shift. my car doesnt anyway, dont know about an alero.
i could only see downshifting being an issue if your trying to actually tune the car. which really is what a dyno is for but most are only doing it to see a number.
as far as i know david already has his car tuned, or at least close to it and isnt doing this to get it tweaked, he really just wants to know how much power shes got.
I'm tired of wasting my time... now I'm breakin' free.
once in 3rd. u gotta creap it up there! not slam it 2 the ground.

It will still downshift... why is having it downshift an issue? Because I'm trying to pull in 3rd gear... as you said...
Dude. We tried everything. Creeping it, slamming it, various methods of "locking it in 3rd" but all you are describing above is not locking it in, but merely feathering the throttle and hoping it stays in gear instead of downshifting (like it's tuned to).

Actually I don't think we did it creeping up to 3rd properly. We slowly let it shift into 3rd, like, the car was only going 30-40 mph, so when we went 100% it downshifted like it should. Supposed to give it some decent throttle so when you go 100%, the car is at the speed it should be in for wide open in 3rd gear, so it won't downshift.
