2.4 to Eco Swap
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 2:51 PM
My '02 Sunfire was totaled on Monday so I'm going to pick up a '00 GT with a manual trans. Since I will have the car I should have everything thing I need except for a couple things. From what I've read in the Ecotec Swap Info post all I will need to get is an Eco specific transmission and manual trans ECU?

Now I do have HPT so I was wondering if I can flash the ECU with a manual trans file. Would this work?

Yes you need the ecotec transmission.

I believe you can run the auto ECU, you will just have to turn off some codes and what not with HPTuners.

Thanks for the straight forward answer. z_yaaaaa no the motor in the GT isn't blown, but it does have 176,000 miles. The Eco only had a measly 8,000.

So my friend and I are working on the swap and ran into a few issues...

1. The fuel lines don't connect to the Eco fuel rail. The quick connect for the 2.4 is near the firewall while the quick connect for the Eco is part of the fuel rail setup. How did you solve this problem?

2. Where you able to reuse the coolant lines off the 2.4? Which one is lower/upper?

3. How did you connect the Evap since the lines are on opposite sides of the motor?

nice downgrade... =)

Not to many people swap a 2.4 over to the Eco because the 2.4 is very comparable, and makes more power out of the box.. usually the LN2 gets swapped out

1. Solve this by getting Eco fuel lines maybe? Since I dont know what the Eco lines look like, that is my guess.

2. I doubt you can use the same coolant lines, I also THINK you need to change out your radiator to an eco one if im not mistaken?????????????
