hey guys...im new to cavys and i love em..i been building s10s..non i owned had the 2.8 tho and they r different in cavys n e ways...well n e way....i have a 1989 Z24 2.8L 5speed.....What can i do for more power...i mean bolt on wise?
i honestly wouldn't even bother with the 2.8. ive owned in the past and they suck balls. no power. if i were you i would be trying to locate a 3400 engine to just swap right in. its like a 40 horsepower upgrade instantly without mods.
however... check out wot-tech.com and mrzperformance.com for a couple upgrades. also... ebay has some stuff every once n awhile if you look hard enough.
and look up v6z24.com. i am sure they have a classifieds section where you may be able to find some good parts.
I must confess... I feel like a monster!
ok kool..but the cavys didnt come with 3400s did they? i kno they are newer motors remem i hav a 89...would u hav to swap comps and harnesses and everything?
honestly... i am not sure about the swap as far as computers etc go. hit up our third generation forum for some info on that subject. or like i said... v6z24.com would be a great resource as well.
and no.. cav's never came with 3400 but that doesnt mean it cant work.
(its been done more than a few times)
I must confess... I feel like a monster!
2nd vote for a 3400. The improvement in "fun factor" for the work and $$ invested is much better.

the only things you would have to do is swap the motor and tune the car, if you want to go farther into it you CAN replace wiring and what not, but waiste of time, V6Z24.com is a great site for those V6, you may even see my turboed cavy on there before she got written off, but ya just swap the motor, and you won't regret it, there are a few things with the 3400 that can add even more ponies from the wreckers, Im sure some of the other guys can explain
"As I lay rubber down the street, I pray for traction I can keep, but if I spin and begin to slide, please dear God protect my ride." -Amen
3400 Swap. most definately. There's at least 1 guy over there on V6 that burns chips for the ECU too.

If you really want any power out of a 2.8, start by rebuilding it. From there, you can add:
eBay intake
3400 exhaust manifold
custom exhaust (2.5")
MRZ pulleys (requires 1" shorter than stock belt)
MRZ bored and sleeved TB
WOT Tech intake manifold (send them yours and they will port it for you)
LS6 valve springs
Cam from comp cams
All in all, this route will cost you more and you'll get less than a 3400 swap. But if you don't want to swap it out, this setup will get you some power. It won't be fast per se, but the car will be decent. I think by the time all is said and done, you'd have just a little more power at the crank than a 3.1. If I had to guess, I could see 155-160 being a reasonable CRANK hp number (not whp, crank hp).

lol...well i was also thnkin botu buildin a 3.1 lol
Just swap to a 3400, or an 00+ 3100. It's much quicker and easier than trying to throw all those parts on. Once you have that in and you're starting from a 60hp higher figure, then start modding.
