i think this should be a sticky in the beginners area. When people see this it should answer a slew of questions as to whats inside and how-to's but i stopped at part 6 but the stuff you found OP is GOLD

just looked like there was a lot of extra bearings and other parts i dont remember seeing in the ld9. didnt see the thing behind the balancer on the ld9. I dont remember it anyway. dont remember replacing bearings in the water pump. But I just threw that away and replaced it. I didnt have time to watch all vids.

you didnt see the bearing cus the ld9 doesnt have that bearing. and before you start thinking thats a good thing keep in mind that because of that bearing you can change a quads water pump WITHOUT taking the timing apart at all. while the water pump on the ld9 is attached to the idler sproket and so the timing must be undone in order to remove the pump. this makes changing the water pump on the quad about 3x faster, all the while that bearing never needs replaced. still think the ld9 is easier?

didn't he say he wanted quad parts on his Ld9 don't think he was implying that ld9 was easier or better

and the ho has a coolant running to throttle body lol :p

he SAID it" looked like the HO had way more parts than the ld9"
..and LOTS of engines have coolant going to their throttle body...thats why we make bypasses

not ALL of them have coolant going to the throttle bodies, just the 87-89 quads iirc.

and scott, the quad pump is a hell of a lot easier to change yes but if gm would have designed us a decent pump to begin with it wouldnt matter LOL

and besides, the quad one has issues with the drive input snapping off that the LD9 one does not have.

drive input snapping off? ...never heard of it...never seen it happen. its as rare as actually having to change the bearing .
as far as giving us a better water pump.........if there was ANYTHING i learned while working for gm dealer it was .. gm installed crappy water pump on ALL their vehicles,

lol agreed. ive put several on my 60 degree V6's over the years.

as for the input breaking, yes i have heard of it. there is a thread over on Q4F about it iirc...

almost as common as the power steering input drive for the LD9 breaking off from what ive read.

I saw this last year on ebay and I almost wanted to buy the vids, thanks for saving me money and making a good thread. But truthfully, this has to be the best you ever posted. This should have been in maintenance section as it is similar to the LD9 and gives an idea on how to get to certain locations.
That engine was ahead of it's time.

Take both apart and then tell me which one has more parts to deal with.
