OHV PUSH RODS?????
Wednesday, September 08, 2010 5:10 PM
OK so Ive been hunting for the valve train parts for my OHV motor and i found these push rods and just wanted to see what other people thought. They are comp cams magnum push rods and the part number is 249-7162-1. There 3/8 diameter with 7.400 length with 0.80 wall thickness. From looking i found that the stock length is 7.448 so i figured that they would work because they are so close but i dont know because i dont have that sorta knowledge about push rods.. i didnt know if the lifters would take up the slack form them being shorter or not. THANKS

I presume you are referring to the '94-'97 motors. Federal-Mogul lists the length as 7.406". Ive also seen that Melling lists the length as 7.458". The pushrods you list will probably work, but to make sure you need to check for the proper pushrod length. Here are a few articles about pushrod length checking: from Circle Track, CarCraft and Chevy High Performance. Google "pushrod length" for more if you need it.

Well i got that stock length from rockauto. They have the push rods for the 2200 listed as 7.448 so thats how i got it.Yes you are correct and i guess i could just buy one and check the length and then go to jegs and get one thats the same or so close that its only a few thousandths off. THANKS for the feed back and i read one of your posts about using the comp springs on a 2200 head and that you need a 7mm cutter of some kind and was wondering why you would need that. Sorry to ask yet another question but i think you have alot of good info about the OHV motor that comes in these cars.

Jonathan, if your looking for an upgrade in pushrods, http://howellautomotive.com/ is where i got my hardend pushrods for my build a few years back. I never finished my ohv and still might have them laying on a shelf collecting dust. pm me if your interested, I'll snoop around and see if I still have them.

So far the parts ive found for what i want to do are THE SPRINGS ARE COMP CAMS 26981-12, THE ROCKERS ARE COMP CAMS 1418-16 magnum roller rockers. THE STUDS ARE ARP 134-7201 SO I CAN MOUNT THE COMP ROCKER ARMS. The valves are from ipp toga hp standard size. What should i do for the lifters just use OEM ones? Howell automotive sells SBI lifters but it doesnt say if they are or the 2.2L OHV or the 2200 OHV. I know that i have to machine the vavle spring seat down .100 to run this spring correct? Then find the correct push rod length after i measure it with the rockers mounted on the head. My buddy has built several SBC before and i know he will help me which is good for sure. Thanks for the feedback guys its great. One more thing i wanted to see if anyone has got a cam for the 2200 from ipp and if they were any good at all?
