Cavalier rebuild project
Sunday, May 15, 2011 7:44 AM
Greetings all,

I have a 97 cavalier that I am rebuildng. I know I know cavis are slow small engne yeah i know not munch to do with a 2.2l (thinkng possible engine swap but thats another thread) im keepng tbhis basic. I installed a spectre CAI and flowmaster muffler and changed spark plugs to E3. added stronger battery too. I am lookng for ways to improve my cars performance and control. I would like to know what would be the best direction from here before proceeding with any other things. I will not use any turbo or superchrged kits cause my engine is small and these 2.2l from this car do have engine issuses at times.(damn head gaskets....)

I here many rumors of performance parts are hyped in certain areas and certain things are better oem. From anyones personal experiance and reccomendations to what else i should nstall on my car? I have an idea of comsetics and I want the car to perform as good as I am going to make her look. not doing outragious stuff just better then normal and more stable; performance AND control. Here are my areas of interest.

x Cat back systems nothing extreme just good and resonable
x spark plug wres
x ignition coils
xdistributuer caps
x brakes and master cylnders
x manfolds and catalytic converters.
xpullys and shafts
x anything with steering and control.

ANY help is apprciates....PLEASE no thrashng cars im not here to hear how bad so so s just want to discuss possble choices looking for more experienced peoples advice. Thanks!!

step 1. remove the e3 spark plugs and install in a garbage can
step 2. swap an ecotec into it.

LOL. well i would assume they are not so good. someone mention that i either do ecotec 2.2l or twin cam 2.4l. would doing a swap to these enines allow the car to be driven without any serious problems?

go with the ld9. then you won't have to rewire the entire car like you would if you swapped to the eco.

and yes the car will drive fine after that. with quite a bit more power.

lolz. trash can would prolly run faster. i know, ive got an ohv

msd ignition system
header
underdrive pulleys
1.6 ratio roller rocker arms
ac delete
cold air intake

only brake upgrades i would suggest are the neon brake swap,
or a complete brake swap which would include a nwf front brake swap and an irs swap

im currently getting parts together for the nwf and irs swap
hope this helps a little
but dont expect too much from the ohv engine, its not a performace minded 4 cyl

Eddie Vargas, Is your car an automatic? Also, It shouldn't a distributor.

psshh... un educated 2.2 haters. there a few 2,2ohv motors on here that would blow most of the boosted guys of DOHC motors out of the water. it just takes alot more money.

lol, unfortunitly the 2.2 currently in mines wont be able to do it. i think a swap and decent mods will definetly have better result then trying to beef up ths engne. dont get me wrong I would love to have my current engne take out some bigger boys but it has its limits....
