hey. new here. i have a 99 z24 cavalier. the motor has a mean knock. my boss has a 2000 grand am se with a 2.4 in it. the motors look identical. i was wondering if i can use the grand am motor?
Knock sensor is different, use your injectors out of your motor as well

99-02 use High impedance injectors and a 2-wire knock sensor. I believe the 00-02 however had a smaller starter...which is really only meaningful if doing the M45.

yep, the 2000-2002 had a smaller starter, but does not matter. Just use your cars exhaust manifold... and maybe oil pan. I can't remember, but I think the oil pan may be slightly different. Just look at it to make sure.

99s also came with the smaller starter. The only difference, sensor wise, is the Front 02 Sensor is a one wire sensor in 99.
The 02 motor will be a plug-n-play affair.

Did all 99's for sure have high impedance injectors?
ALL 99 J-bodies came with the high impedance injectors. N-bodies and others are a different story. Most other LD9s were high impedance, though.

ok so it will work, and i should grab my injectors, and possibly the oil pan? thanks for all the replys.
well motor is out of the grand am. wow that was fun. any thing i should do before i stick er in the cavi? i think i might put in a new clutch for the hell of it and possibly head gasket?
rear main seal should always be replaced if you can.
change the waterpump now while its out you will be happy you did it now rather then 5000miles later
oil pan should be fine. the exhaust manifold should be fine too the only difference is early (98 older) had a 4 bolt down pipe not a 3
if both cars have a 3 bolt DP then your set
