Cat stolen. I need downpipe advice for a 2200.

So some little bitch cut off my catalytic converter while I sleeping Thursday night. Needless to say it ruined my day. So now Im stuck. I need to figure out a permanent solution since right now Im just running a piece of pipe clamped in place of the cat. Its not very sturdy and leaks like a sieve.

So the idea came to mind: Why not just pick up a header and dp combo since its less than the $280 I was quoted for a new OEM replacement dp and my stock dp has two broken hangers and a shredded flexpipe so its not worth saving. How far back does the dp go on the headers for these cars? I think they all terminate before the cat so Im not sure if thats going to help me. My second thought was to get the header and have someone weld a flange on a piece of pipe and clamp in onto the end of the header where it terminates.

So I guess what I need is some pics of some dp setups for LN2s and info on where I could pick up a flange that matches the stock catback.

Thanks guys.

Forgot some things. Opinions on anti-foulers or O2 sims to cover my cat code Im going to have? Im not worried about inspection since Im in Ohio but Id like to not have the light on my dash.

And does anyone know if a muffler shop would weld the flange for me? Its a pretty small job but I dont know anyone with a welder in the area since Im away from home for school.

How did they get that low ass car up high enough to cut it??

o2 sim really won't work, a fouler will not work either.

Magana flow has a universal cat for 110.00, just pick your pip diameter, oreilly''s sells em.

@!#$ cats, keep the pipe. screw your downstream O2, turn off the code with HPTuners if you're that concerned about the SES light.

not really.... the platinum inside is worth BIG bucks. They steal them off @!#$ cars because then they can claim they were turned in, not stolen a lot easier.

VERY common.

I loved reading the story of the guy who was stealing cats and the car jack failed and crushed him and killed him. Karma.

The police even said they would've needed a jack to get to it and my car was the only one in a lot of 40 or 50 to get hit. Buncha randomness.

I would like to use HPT but from what I understand I need to pay someone $100 to license my car.

They do work, but you need to stack two of them on top of one another, I had done that and passes the scan test 2 times before getting my car tuned and having the 2nd 02 deleted.
Sucks that your car out of the whole lot of them was picked. On my old 2200 car the pacesetter dp ends just past the subframe before the cat. Using hpt will require you to spend 100 to register the computer with the , but you'll never have to worry about passing emmisions again.

Just because it passes the scan test doesn't mean that your car is functioning properly.

JUCNBST is right, you drill and stack them and it'll work fine. How do you figure it won't? I've personally have done such to two j-bodies. ....and while people had problem with the Casper's sim, I ran the one from ZZP amongst other's on LD9 cars and have had success. Hell my ZZP downpipe on the HHR has an extension welded which does the same thing, space it from the stream to trick such as I've yet to throw a CEL with that 3" monster.

On this note Brian I have an angled O2 block (90') that a guy on the VW forum fabbed for tight space areas, I ran it on the Cobalt when I removed the tune and it worked great for 8 months until I retuned it once more. Think I paid $35-$40 shipped, if interested throw me an offer, it's just sitting in my toolbox and it's a really nice piece of little fab work!

It's the second sensor, the car will function just fine without!

Thats what I needed. Thanks. I dont have to pass emissions ever in Ohio so Im not worried about that. Strangely enough, its day 3 with no cat and I havent seen a CEL yet.

Joe, Im probably going to stay away from an anti-fouler to avoid having to have a bung welded into the pipe. I did find this though. Its how to make your own O2 sim. I have been wanting to get my hands dirty in some electronics lately. So I might give that a shot. I read that Casper is out of business or something due to EPA pressure so if the DIY method fails Ill have to find a sim somewhere.

No no they didnt take the second sensor but they cut it off right at the bung so I cant do much with that section of pipe aside from cutting the flange off of it.

I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I think my cars getting scoped out. I found two big greasy hand prints on it on the door and roof yesterday. I parked it by the window of my apartment. The benefit of being on the ground floor is that if anyone wants to do anything to it, Ill be coming out the window with a tire iron.

Have the cops get those prints... I'll bet they have a record tied to them.

That sucks. I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago at work. My car and about 20 more had the cat's cut off. The only thing I could do is laugh since my cat was gutted. This was on my old 240sx. (first car) It just made me get off my butt and install an exhaust.

Definitely sucks to hear. Most places won't even buy cats anymore. Atleast not here in az, I was told by 3 different places it is now illegal to buy used cats for scrap.

I have 4 cats from doing the headers on my altima and was hoping to recoup some of the cost of the new cat that got put on.

On a wide note, I have a stock cat if you want to just replace it. Pay shipping and its yours.
