For starters:

5-spd
Driving the other day and the car started to get hot so I checked the water and there was none in the tank first thing I checked was the pcv box and it was full of coolant so I pulled the head off and the gasket was fried...
A few months ago I bought a 2.3l ho out of a 91 beretta, decided to do the head swap while it's all apart. (086 head)
Just want to make sure that everything would go together right and I'm not sure on what gasket to use 2.3 or 2.4
Also will be doing the chain/gears/tensioner/guides/waterpump
Correct me if I'm wrong but I use all 2.4 parts for that right?
Anything helps.
Thanks guys!
Don't know why this posted twice
Yep you can use the 2.4 timing and water pump parts.
Now which gasket to use, im unsure, but im sure someone will chime in about that.

Alright thanks.
Anything else tricky about the swap or does it just bolt up?
Nope nothin tricky about it, just make sure you get your timing marks all lined up correctly during installation and you should be good.

Alright thanks alot man...
Still can't figure out what gasket to use or if it would even matter??? Any input?
Yea I really dont know about the gasket, I have zero experience with the top of the 2.3 motor. Just wait a little bit, someone will chime in.

Yea...
I know it's been done so someone knows, just gotta be patient.
Thanks for all your help man.
Shouldnt you just use the head gasket that matches the bore diameter of the block? Thats what you do when swapping eco heads between blocks.

I thought I used the 2.4 gasket but just wanted to make sure. I'd hate to put the wrong gasket in and have to tear it all apart again.
Does the 2.3 head need to be modded or not...
I see that the water jackets are off a little but would the larger water jackets on the block compensate for that or would it need to be slotted out.
So just trace the gasket on the head and dremmel it out so it will allow flow?
That's what I did except for the hole with the big red X in the pic. It is a water passage in one head and oil in the other.
So just leave that hole alone right?

Yes sir
No prob!
Sorry to bring this back but was checking it out and wondering if I would need valve reliefs in the pistons since the 2.3 are dish and mine are flat tops?
Using 086 head
Back when I was looking at the swap I remember reading stock and secret cams are fine, some say HO's will even clear.

thats because the 086 head is closer to the block so to speak, so probably not gonna want flat top....maybe though to be honest I haven't got a clue on the measurements, but I can tell you I took .020 off my 2.3. block and head and I think now...approx 3 years later I may have valve tap all the way across the exhaust side...this has yet to be comfirmed though the cars new owner got hurt and the car was sitting for the last year or so...hopefully the lifters just gummed up and are just being noisy.....
