wondering if wrapping my header in heat tape would be ok or would it get to hot a burn the tape off

Don't wrap your header it will cause it to rot out faster. on a street car I'd advise on getting a coating done over wrapping, if it was a track only car I'd consider wrapping but with a dd no way. I had my pacesetter rot out in under a year on my old ohv with heat wrap because it held in moisture and the salty water of our Chicagoland winters. The replacement header didn't have wrap and lasted years.
thanks for the info i live in ohio so we get alot of snow so that = alot of salt .. dont really have the extra cash to get it coated at the moment ... any other suggestions to keep it from rusting?

Coating isn't that expensive...
I paid $125 for a set of v6 headers and downpipe to be coated with the stuff that pacesetter uses.

Vincent Morris has posted in the past that he used to wipe his non coated header down with anit seize and it worked. I've never tried it on a header, but at work we do it on driveshafts and it works well in a humid carwash enviroment.
i know this is the super cheap way out but what about vht flame proof paint with ceramic additive

It will just postpone the corrosion, i did an irom manifold and it lasted a couple years before it started rusting again. i would pay to have it coated.
only problem is i dont know a=of anywhere around me that does that sort of thing ..
