i heard they were gonna start asking for passports going to and from canada to US, but I dont think it is in effect yet. I would contact a customs office and get some info from them. if they cant tell you the answer, no one can

I went down in October and all I needed was my drivers licance and birth certificate, never heard about having to use a passport.

It's coming soon but it isn't law yet. To get a passport application there is a passport office in most larger cities. You need a guarantor (someone professional i.e doctor, school principal, bank manager) to sign your passport application. I can't remember how much it costs though, mine is almost expired....

I went down in november and I needed my drivers licance and birth certificate, also if you are driving the car it must be regestered to you.

I'm in the same boat as you. It don't matter, i went with my car and my moms truck over the summer. If they ask say it belongs to whoever the name on the ownership is.

Yeah but you can't really compare US and Canadian passports. Thats like you telling us how much it costs for a visit to the hospital or something...

but you can get the passport rushed in a week for an additional i think $25

it only takes 10-14 days anyway.

85 bucks for the passport, photos range from 10-20

Print the form online, fill it out, get your pictures signed by your doctor, and drop it off, or purolator it.

All that said, You dont need a passport to cross the border i live 15 minutes from the border, go over all the time, and I drove across in my wifes car and they didnt say anything. Have all of your stuff ready at the border, you will walk through. dont worry about it.

Even without the rush you'll probably get your passport within 2 weeks of applying for it. The hardest part is getting everything you need for your application, the photo, contacts, the guarantor signatures (one on one of the photos and one on the application) and making sure that it's filled out properly. They are VERY picky about how it's filled out. They pointed out that my birth certificate says I was born in the North York but I put on my application that I was born in Toronto. (turned out to not be a problem but to even point it out is pretty stupid)

Hmmm.. I always wondered why they always ask me if it's my car when I drive across.
