i have a lot of water on the passenger side. i think it might be leaking from that compartment where the wipers are with the cover over its starting to become a pain got to try to vac up some of the water. thanks for any suggest where it might be coming from but thats the only place i can think of. thanks in advance.
The drain holes for the cowl are clogged and cuasing it to fill with water and leak through the air box. Take the wiper arms off and remove the cowl piece and clean it all out good .. and repair any rust you find in the corners around the wiring.
This is a really common thing with these cars, its easy to fix just clean out the cowling real good and you'll see were all the factory caulking type stuff has broken away and fallen off, just replace it all and you should be fine.
so replace caulking were its broken.and also i wanted to replace thing that covers the wipers because i cracked it do you know the name of it. i think i have to screw it off to get to the cowl
I always just called it the cowl, if they dont know what you mean when you go to buy one just say the cowl at the base of teh windshield, they'll know what you mean.
Hopefully all you have to do is replacve the sealant in there, sometimes it rusts out pretty good and it takes a little more work to patch, but most of them just need new sealant.
how do take the wiper arm off and do u need specific tool to take it off
raise the wiper arm up , there is a little metal tab on the side, pull it up.. the arm will stay in the locked up position and pull straight off.
is the cowl that whole compartment or is it a piece thats in that covers the wipers. can i also use silicone caulking to caulk it.
looked in the chilton book and could not find the cowl. they just call the cover shroud top vent grille.
I would use Seam Sealer, made for that job, available at Autoparts stores.
Worth spending a little more to have a good quality product.

does anyone have the exact name of the seam sealer.
Seam sealer.
was that a trick question?
thanks for the help. i solved the problem. the drain that lets the water out was cloged with dirt and other so i cleaned it out.
guess ill be looking into the seam sealer. still leaking water. can that piece connected to the fan in the cowl leak in water.
Check the ac drain and make sure it is not pluged and that the drain pan is not cracked.

can you tell me where it is located at
There is a rectangular panel in the section of the floor where the passengers feet would be,
if they were placed well forward, it's the section that slopes at 30-45 degrees. The rectangular panel is welded in and the seams there may be leaking, or you may have a bigger hole. You will need the the carpet out completely from the front, after removing the front seats. That's if it is leaking from around there.
Hope this helps

when i move the carpet back its this black panel and it feel like it has a cushion behind it because when i pushed it and water came out. thanks for the help. getting tired of vacuuming out the car and it smells. cant wait to find out where its leaking in from.going to buy the seam sealer on friday and try that also.
Ok so that "Black Panel" has to come out as well, you want to get down to bare metal (well, hopefully with some paint on it too) and then you will really be able to see where the water is ingressing.
I think the "black panel" may be part of the underlayment of the carpet, mine has that adhering to the carpet, sorta shaping it.

Look in the engine compartment firewall pass. side right above the seam. Kind of behind and under part of steering. You might have better luck locating it from underneath first. It is a small black plastic tube with an elbow on it that fits on a nipple extruding through the firewall from the drip pan. You should be able to unplug it with a pipe cleaner or piece of 10ga. speaker wire.
Sounds to me this is the problem. Do not remove the drip pan unless it is broken or you have to access the ac lines. If you do you will break the adhesive seal and be a real pain to seal it back up again.
Hope this helps.

You also need to get the carpet and padding out of the car and get everything dry before it starts getting moldy and ruins the carpet and padding.

The door above the blower motor that opens up for the A/C, there are 4 bolts around the bottom. The metal around one of the bolts had rusted through on my car and leaked water. I sealed it up with roofers tar cement
