yeah, good question i'll be rebuilding mine shortly, also.Where do you get performance parts for these cars?
gasketmatch the intake manifold ports with the head.
Upgrade the rods
Use felpro head gasket
Stock pistons will do unless you plan on changing compression, or run some serious power.
Crank?(i would suspect upgrading it )
You can upgrade the throttle body
You can upgrade the camshaft to something more your taste
underdrive pulleys are they available?
Just a bullsh*t list for you
You can get a bigger turbo and bigger injectors. Also a bigget throttle body, p/p the head and intake, get an intercooler, etc.
bascily, all you need to do in the bottom end is deal with the rods. get them maggnufluxed (checks for cracks), beam polish them (removes the stress points in the beam) shot pean them (furthur removes stress points) install arp rod bolts and balance the entire rotation assembly. you now have a bottom end that will support more power than the top end will flow (aprox 350hp).
you will need a copper head gasket passed 250hp. you can port the head and intake. you will need a bigger throttle body passed 210hp, you can upgrade to the fiero tb. you can get a reground cam, stainless valves, better valve springs. pretty much thats all that is internal to do, most of the rest is external stuff.
you will need a bigger turbo for serious power. a t25 from a tgp is a good choice, there are also many others. along with that, a good idea is to upgrade your oil feed line to something bigger. an intercooler is a must. a blow off valve is needed aswell. getting the exaust passed the turbo is important, good exaust (minimum 2.5").
speed costs, how fast do you wanna go??? give us a realistic goal of what you want out of the motor, itll help us point you in the right direction.
Whats a tgp? They already come with a t25, which is why I went to a t28.
When all is said and done, tell me the total cost for the overhaul.....In thinking of doing a complete rebuild on my 2.0 turbo motor....
Just to let you know, everything you do to the engine will have to be custom made.

I know you guys are anti Mantapart.com but for anyone building a 2.0 OHC engine, it's worth looking at. If you read on the website about the company, they are supposed to have built the Sunbird up for IMSA racing and then Pontiac dropped out, but they have loads of parts for the OHC, including racing parts. I have had only good dealings with them, and I wrote them an email after I heard alot of bad stuff from people here, and got a response noting that yes, there have been problems in the past but that if I order something from them, I shouldn't be worried, and I don't think I would be. I have seen plenty of members here with their products, and is probably where I will get most of the parts for my upcoming engine build. If you hate Mantapart and everything they have, I don't care. Unless you got something from them and it was a piece of crap, that's a different story
If you have a specific request for a part or a list of parts etc, I can answer this FAR easier for yoiu. otherwise, to go thru and list everything you can do to the motor or parts availible, is going to be more time then I'm willing to invest.

tgp stands for turbo grand prix. in 89 and 90, gm teamed up with mclearen to build a few (about 2000 per year) grand prix 3.1l and turbo them. they use a t25 turbo, however its larger than the 2.0l turbo, and actualy spools a hell of a lot faster. this turbo is a direct bolt on, and ive heard gains around 35hp at the same boost level. however, they are near impossible to find, as only 4000 were ever made between canada and the US.
Actually there is one in a junkyard really close to me. I was there today. I dont know about the earlier Sunbirds, but the '90 with the 2.0 had a t25 from the factory, and when I roasted mine I got a t28 and put it in it. The old turbo disintegrated and threw metal into my engine, so I had to rebuild it too.
