The shift interlock deal on my girlfriend's 94 'bird is not working and will not allow her to shift from park even when the brake is depressed. Is that run by a solenoid? Currently she shifts to neutral after she turns the key and then goes from there. Where should I start?

Had a guy at Autozone had that happen to his Contour....what it was is the brake light fuse blew, and since the brake lights werent coming on, it wouldnt shift out of park...check your fuses and bulbs!

I think there is a solenoid in that system that sometimes goes bad, but I'm not entirely sure. I've never had a problem with that myself so I'd suggest get somebody who's worked on shift lock before or get a Chilton's/Hayes book, that should help you diagnose the problem.
