hey all... i got an aftermarket tach (not installed yet) but i am curious where the redline would be on my '94 2.2L, like where i should not rev it past. (i think thats what redline means, right?) i did a search for 2.2 redline and did not get anything so i figured i'd ask
anyway, just curiosity... the tach goes up to 8,000RPM... lol i know the redline should definately be before that. what do ya's think, maybe 5500-6000RPM? i dunno.
thanks for replying to my newb question!

IIRC, the rev limiter kicks in at 4800-4900. Thats something I would have to look up to be certain, but I don't hav my manual here.
I don't remember my stock 93 ecm having a redline. With the turbo I shift somewhere around 6300.

highest you wanna rev a 2.2 ohv is gonna be right around 6k maybe 6200 if you think your gonna make any power that high. i know my auto 91 2.2 cav did not have a redline lol it just sounded like it was gonna throw a rod after 6k
cool..
yeah basically i just wanted to know where i should say "yeah i shouldnt go past this certain point on the tach if i dont want to damage my engine" kinda thing.
thanks guys!

Redline is really max rpm before the engine comes apart. It's not usually the same as the best shift rpm. I think the power peak on the stock 2.2 is around 5200, so you should probably be shifting by 5500 or so.

without going out and checking mine hits rev limiter at 6400 i believe and shift at 6300 cuz i still make power there under boost.
