I saw a post in the 3rd gen cavaliers about this and figured i would post this up for the 2nd gen.
Best : Has never let me down and made it 180,000 miles with no big problems, just normal things had to be replaced.
Worst: My car has rusted alot and a few antifreeze problems.

never let anything slip away
Best: Easy platform to work around. Takes some balls, but not a lot of money to make fast.
Worst: They don't make things like weatherstripping for our cars anymore, some parts are hard to find. Mine has no rusting problems.
Cardomain|
Myspace
best: alot of stuff has to be custom fabbed, so its not just another cookie cutter honda!!!
worst: has to be the z24 side skirts that cause rust big time.
DEF BOY customs
92 Z24 tuckin 19's
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Best: Stylish body lines, yet grocery getter name hides the power of the Z24/GT models
Worst: wind noise, leaky sunroof and typically under-powered unless you own the afformentioned models.
best- car looks amazing and still runs strong
worst- very underpowered, some parts hard to find
Best: it ran 40 miles with half a timing belt
worst: it didn't run with a 2.0 turbo in it
Best: custom suspension (although it is kind of a rough ride....500lb spring will do that
)
Worst: probably the tiny little rust spots that always seem to pop up where I least expect them......
3400 90z24
BEST: i can just keep swappign in bigger better and more powerfull 60 degree v6s, im doing low 14s in a car i baught for $400. 238,000 original miles on the trans including 8 trips to the drag track and doesnt grind a single gear.
WORST: building the motor cost me nearly $2500, the cluthc releases at any damn position it feels like it. every tiem im at the track my whole motor and underside of the hood gets soacked in power steering fluid. rust repair seems to be a never ending battle with nature, although i already replaced the rockers and a chunk of my quarter panel, i can still see the ground through the drivers floor *sigh*
Best : All around fun car, NO rust
, tough enough to haull me and 3 disassembled engines at 85 with the air on and still get 28 mpg with about 170k miles on it. Worst: Not much aftermarket support, the never ending battle to stop the rattles, and Tired of people asking what year Mustang it is.
best: fun to drive, fits my personality/mentality (underdog), old so its kinda basic and good to learn with, IMO the body is designed well except for the rust (which i blame on previous owners)
worst: @!#$ RUST, its not a z24, will be hell to swap the motor, small engine bay, lost the lens on both front turn signal lights, front right corner signal light is out, gas tank rattles when my sub is up loud, not leather seats, cracks in dash....
but when i fix all that it'll be a thing of beauty..
worst: 1) finding OE parts that haven't rotted in the salvage yard
2) tracking down the bad spot in the fuel pump wiring
3) wondering if it'll even come close to passing smog testing
best: 1) cheap to buy
2) semi-cheap to maintain
3) coughing of the mustang gt passenger when he whiffs the wagon's exhaust as i blow by his buddy's brand new ride
Have you seen the turbo wagon?
13.90 @ 105.46mph
street tires
rough tune
Best. it's not a Z24
fast, topless and fun to drive
worst Tires/cv's are expensive
1st 1st gen on air.....
best-can be confused for a mustang and the hood of the z24s
worst-most deffinately the rust on the doors
215/35/18, and i ROAST em thru 1st/2nd if i;m not careful! and that's spinnin em from a roll!
1st 1st gen on air.....
i use 205/45/16's.... they handle rather well and the longevity is magnificent...
worst.... they really don't make alot of aftermarket parts for this, thus custom comes into play, rust like mad
best... I got mine the way I like it which is now boosted with no rust what so ever and its not like every other 2nd gen. heck a cavalier for that matter.
**changes are here**
worst...... ABS BRAKES & Rust, weight
Best....... looks and dependability
i dont have my ICE class til next year... and the bird is off the road... next summer if it works out right it will be 3400 turbo... if not just plain boring 185hp 3400 (nothing like doubling your power!)
edit: i'm working on exterior right now so my car will be all show no go... no point in working on a stock 2.0
