I have just finished my design to rwd my 94 sunbird. 3.4 std. It's a big job but i have almost got the design perfect. Do you guys think i'm crazy.
im goona have to go with stupid........haha jk man........thats a cool mod........but ide rather have AWD more than anything........atleast with my motor i would.
I had a v6 firebird before i got my sunbird. Its a 3.1 turbo pushing 325hp. I love my sunbird but the 2.0 is failing. At idle i have no oil pressure and the max i can get is 20psi. so i might be crazy or ambitious but i might go with stupid too. I have the Fx design Hood, Front bumper and rear bumper. But i like too be very different then everyone else.
you finished your design?
There is no designing to it. Find a RWD transmission that bolts to your engine, measure, cut weld, measure, cut weld.... make engine mounts (which you could never "design" without the engine sitting sideways under your hood.) Make transmission mounts (same thing.) Find a rear-axel that fits your width needs, get the angle correct, weld in the links to your suspension.... after all of that is done, you have a rear axel made to your specificiations and weld in a new tub over your trans and rear axel.
It's pretty safe to say that if you designed anything before touching your car, all you did is waste paper.

Don't forget steering since it mounts right were the tran would go throw.
use an LE steering column with tilt steering, move the rack up 6" and change the angle of column to match it. the tie rod bolts in the rack are like 1/2" put a longer sleave and longer bolts on them to make up the difference and connect them bellow the tie rods with a bar of the same width as the rack with holes drilled.... shouldn't be a problem.
Building a sunbird period is being different though.. if you convert it to rwd, most people wont even know it wasn't rwd to begin with.

lol.... i vote minion for most knowledgable bird owner
Has anyone tried doing an AWD conversion using parts from a late late80s/early 90s Pontiac 6000? I had a '90 that was awd and had the 3.1 V6 in it. It had 4 wheel disc brakes too. Imagine turbocharging that set up. Another thing that would be fun to attempt is a northstar conversion. I know they will fit in a Fiero, and it looks to me that a Fiero has less room in the engine compartment.
