Okay... I have a 1994 Chevy Cavalier, the I4, which doesn't have a tach...
So, first off, does it have a rev limiter? Kinda need to know that.
Second, how hard would it be to install a tachometer on it?
I'd love to have a tach... The V6 model came with one. Kinda sad, really...
I'm looking forward to installing it, as I am with any mods, and some repairs. However, how difficult might it be? I'd like to know before I go tearing into it....

'91-94 I4 Cavaliers had an option for a tachometer, and I believe the wiring is in place behind the dash. Meaning just find an I4 w/tach cluster in the boneyards (yes, it has to be an I4) and install. Cake.

Wonderful... Now I have to find a cluster... Wait a minute... It doesn't exactly have to be made for my car, does it? If not, I can just go root around a yard 'til I find one. It would be quite nice. Quite nice indeed. I'd be nice to have a tach. Easier to perfect my launches if I know what rpm I'm at...

no it has to be the cluster of a Chevrolet Cavalier, with the 2.2 I4 Engine.....as long as it's your generation cavalier, it should be fine.
It doesn't have to be a 4 cyl cluster. You can use a 6 cyl one. There is a How-To on www.v6z24.com in the General FAQ.

94 never had that option
but the cluster drops right into a 94, and i have one or 2 spares kicking around here somwhere, they are in cdn km/h and stuf tho if anyones interested, the trip odometers don't work like most 2nd gens tho
I hit 6700 rpms once in the Sunbird...granted that was in neutral in a parking lot, and only for a second...
My '94 with the 2.2 has a 6,700 rev limiter.
As far as the tach goes, a dash with a tach was available on the Z24, and all of that generation are pre-wired for that cluster. I have a SunPro tach that runs off the factory wire in the cluster wiring, it's fairly easy. Check out eBay for used Factory Service Manuals, it's a great reference tool and it shows the terminals for the dash, makes it so easy to wire. However, in the GM Manual, the plug is upside down from what really is there in the dash.
OOPS! :-)
Hope that helps you some!
