well it sounds like my rear brakes are grinding. ive never replaced them before so i have a few questions. are they hard to replace? are the parts expensive? if i take it to a shop will it cost me an arm and a leg??

not if you take your time and take pictures of everything for reference.

no. shoes <$20, hardware kit <$10, wheel cylinders <$15 each. do them all while you're there, and never have to worry about it again. make sure to grease the star wheel as well.

yes. this is one area of a car people don't want to deal with, rear brakes. however, on these cars, it's EXTREMELY simple. most difficult bit of the job is getting the drum that had rusted to the hub to come off.

x2, brakes are incredibly easy. just getting drums off, when i replaced my front brakes, i think i spent double the time taking the old rotors off then i did actually changing parts.
