getting the rear suspension lowered...
how much should this cost me?
it
should cost you $750-$1000.
thats correct struts to handle a drop and a nice lowering spring with new mounts.
180hp in 1989 or 145hp in 2002, you decide. >
its so you always looking like your hauling ass

For all new components, But you gotta be careful on buying some cheap used @!#$. Never know what kind of ride they will give.

We call that perma-launch.
almost a grand to get the suspension lowered...
on a cavalier?
that's ridic, yo.
ridic.
and i meant getting the suspension lowered for both the front and rear...
it just kinda looks like my rear suspension is slightly higher than the front.
don't know why, yo.
Its the way Js in general sit. Eibach Sportlines lower 1.7 in the front ans 2.3 in the rear to give you an even drop.
You can do way less than a grand. Just look at the classifieds and your regional forums for some used stuff.
quality costs money yo... so check it out, it's like this...
factory struts are trash. put lowering springs on them and they will blow, ride like @!#$, and potentially cause you to lose control of your car. sometimes it's ok to go cheap. suspension is not one of those times.

@!#$ i spent ~$1500 to "relower" my cav because the $2000 suspension wasnt working out for me.

with that kind of money, you could've bought
another cavalier.

i understand the fact that quality costs money...
but it just doesn't make much sense to me to be spending more than what the car itself is worth.

I have a perfect idea then, go buy a corvetter, evo, sti, ect. That way when you do mods to them you dont feel like your spending more than the car is worth. Thats the point of modding up cavs, civics and all the other economy sport compacts that people work on, to put money into it and make it perform comparable to higher priced cars. If you cant justify spending money on a car to do it the right way then you should stay away from modding them in general. 6-700 on a suspension isint too bad for how important of a component it is.
Not to mention $700 is downright cheap for a full suspension revamp compared to the cost of doing it on Evo's, STI's etc.
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

then why are you modding a cavalier?

I've spent over 13,000 on my Cavy and I've not yet rebuilt the engine or tranny.
I'll tell you this, I'll let you drive my car, and then tell me it's not worth it. I think you'll change your mind.
Good luck though and these guys aren't just saying what they're saying because they can say it. They know from experience and others experience with our Jbodies.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
James speaks truth. Yo.
I paid $2k for my car in '08. And by summer of '09, I was close to $1,800 invested in other stuff/parts aside from the purchase price.
Price climbs QUICK when modding. And my car is still basically stock IMO.
:Edit: Forgot to add the "Yo"
