KYB GR2 & Eibach Pro Questions
Saturday, January 29, 2011 9:38 PM
Hi there... i was just wondering a few things here, i have a 2003 Cavalier Z24 LS, i just changed the shock and strut mounts because i thought they should be done the fronts were seized up which was weird cause i thought the turning was good but when pulled into my driveway which is on a small upwards incline i could hear crunching but replaced fronts and but ya shocks are gone now, the rear shock mounts looked fine when they came out but i changed them anyhows but seems my stock shocks in rear didn't like new shock mounts cause they completly blew out within 2-3 days after putting the New Monroe mounts in but with the new mounts all around anyone think adding new shock mounts put more pressure on the stock shocks that were very close too blowing right out anyhows ? and car sounds like ass now all kinda noises just the shocks blown right out now that clunk squeak n stuff, the mounts should be damaged would they be.? so ok tho on monday i'm getting some GR2's Brand New 88 dollars each taxes in, they should be decent on eibach pro springs for a good while eh?, any Opinion Count's Thanks let me know what u pros Think.. thanks

And Monroe Mounts will work on KYB GR2's

221K on stock shocks lowered at 150-200K

AGXs are the perfect strut for the Pro-kit. Don't bother the the GR2s.

KYB Struts are factory relpacement only,Do not use on Drop springs..

Go and get a set of Tokico HP Blues if you want a good strut on a drop spring..

And yes you strut mounts will work with any other strut that you use,I am using the same ones with my Dpecs.

Why do you ask for advice and they say you have no money,The GR2 Struts are not meant to work with drop springs,Due to the fact the do not have the proper valving in them,Has nothing to do with pot holes..

If you only understood how many times your wheel travels up and down you would understand how the valving work's between a stock strut and a strut that is meant to be used on lowering springs..

I Understand but at this point my stock have just blown in the rears and i need to replace and i only got a little cash so i gotta do em, it will take it for a good while, i read all over the place good things about it by people who have this set up.. i understand not really for it but they will work tho from what ive read and i need new shocks for cheap that will work good for a while, my stock shocks lasted awhile and car was lowered i believe at 150Kish and lasted too 204K 100% mint and totally blew out at 221200K, so it will work good for awhile as long as im careful no serious potholes at least not too many! times. ?

Remember Everyone who lowers moreless do it on used struts and shocks with normally a lot of K's this is Brand New KYB GR2's which are a bit better then GM Stock ones, just something i dont think many people think when comes to stock Lowering, would anyone agree. ?

Everyone who lowers their cav on here does it on new appropriate struts. We save and do it right the first time.

Either I am reading this incorrectly or you are defying the laws of GM's cheapness on this car. Stock struts have a hard time lasting to 100k+ on STOCK springs. I've seen it. The owner thinks it's riding fine, and when you disassemble it, it pukes everywhere. The thing is you don't notice the degradation in quality because you drive it everyday. Hop in my car, or someone else's car with a quality suspension and you will be blown away.

Last thought - lowering springs w/o dampening (blown struts) are not only uncomfortable, they are dangerous.

Word of advice buddy I bought new set of all around gr-2 and blew all of them in less than six months on a pro kit (didn't know about special lowering shochs) then my mechanic put best gabriel shocks and blew those in two months (he didn't know they were lowering shocks) so now I'm about to put agx's all around. DAMN I should have read the suspencion forum first

Get the AGX's when the GR2's go to hell! Just did the pro-kit/AGX combo on our 01 Z24 and we love the way it rides!

To bad you went with gr2's, the agx struts can be found for 90 each on jc whitney's website... and they feel amazing with the pro kit. And are also warrantied for cars with up the a 1.5" drop... which means you blew them with prolines and they get replaced free

I give it 90 days til this kid makes a post complaining how at least 2 of those gr-2s are already blown out. Maybe someone can enlighten me on this (because after thousands of these threads I still don't understand)...why do people come here asking for advice, when clearly they have no intention of following it and just do whatever they were going to do anyway.
I hope for other people's sake no one is around you when those gr-2s decide to take a dump all over the highway.

I am to the point of why ask when you are just going to do it,Just like the ppl that keep asking can I lower my car on stock struts...I really am starting to feel that the spring companys should be more on bord with strut companys and offer the kits as a completed set,Or just give you the option of which strut works with which spring...There would be less questions and less dum people doing stuipd things to risk your life and other peoples lifes..

And to this person,Happy bouncing down the road and yet proving that why do the job right the first time when you can half ass it and spend more money at the end of the day.

actually eibach does, they offer a complete setup with prolines. Special struts and an option for a swaybar kit including. Its a great looking kit and from what I hear a little stiffer then stock and improves handling by a lot. If my car didn't come with the pro/agx setup from the po I would have gotten it

I get a kick out of the "there isn't many pot hole" comment. Hate to burst your bubble but pot holes are not whats going to blow the GR2's, its the fact that you are putting lowering springs on a strut that is not meant for it. So when your car rides like crap in a few months and you have to pull it apart again and do it over it'll cost you more than the price difference for a good set of stuts.

About 5 year ago a guy did the same comb and the GR2's were blown in 4 months another, 6 months and another about a year. Granted the one that blew in 4 months was a daily driver.

One car made it seem like GR2's was ok Mat Teske's (That was a while ago when his car was the envy or everyone). He had those on his car but the thing most failed to realize that car was a trailer queen.
