OK guys this is the story. On my way to work I can around a corner and a school bus was in my path of rounding the corner and i ran the sholder to avoid hitting this bus. While on the soft sholder i hit a rather large pot hole and blew the tire bent the rim and now have a grinding noise in the front right. The brake appear to be good brand new good. I have a feeling it is eather a wheel bearing or i cracked a CV? Have any of you had this problem with hitting a pothole at 60MPH and have a grinding noise some from the front. also it grinds with the brake not being applied and with them being applied.
I need an answer because monday the 25th the car goes the the tranny shop for repair and if it is the CV it will get fixed at the same time, Thanks
Does it turn into a high pitched sound at higher speeds? How loud is it? Jack that side of the car up and try to wiggle the tire back and fourth. If you feel any movement then it is the wheel bearing. Personally I would not be driving that car at all if it's the wheel bearing and you can hear it grind at slow speeds. I have been in two cars where the wheel bearing shattered on the highway... very serious and you could get killed.

My front skreaches when i push on the gas enough. I didn't hit any kinda pot hole, but i did try to hop a curb to tighten my headder bolts. I got my drivelines inspected when my transmission was rebuilt 6 months ago, and it didn't act up for the mechanics at that shop. I could be a wheel bearing. I'm going to check everything out when 50K miles roles around and hopefully find an answer to that question myself.
The wierd thing about my skreach is it only happens until 3rd gear, then i cant hear it anymore.
i had a similar problem with a pot hole and it turned out that i bent my drive axle which was making a grinding noise as i drove it. Once replaced it was all back to normal. hope this helps

Do you have ABS? the sensor could be hitting the ring on the CV shaft, also to check wheel bearings its better to grab the tire at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and wiggle it that way, side to side only checks tie rod ends. A wheel bearing is more of a humming noise. Take it to the dealership and have them look it over for you just to be safe.

well guys i took th spare tire off the front and moved it to the rear, now the bigger sound is in he back, but i still have a funny noise up front. My car goes to the tranny shop monday for a rebuild and if the CV is bent that will also be fixed as well. But i do suspect a bad wheel bearing ans it also needs ball joints. Thanks guys for all the help I will check into every thing you have said about your own cars. Thanks again
also it it was just a grind like bad brakes but its not the brakes. I talked to my machanic and he said there was a recall with the break pads on our cars, something about the wear tabs being upside down and backwards? or they were put on the cars backwards? I cant recall exactly what he said but its worth checking into guys. He also said my spare was too small and didnt clear the caliper, I just think the spare is a large peace of crap.
Slow down ! You were obviously speeding in a residential are.. good going bud.
Be thankful you never killed a child... Idgeiot
ok i was out in BFE pal, It was 6:15 AM the bus just left where the lady lived, I do not drive like that near children or in town for alot of reasons. one being im a father man.
