Anyways, since about Sunday I've noticed a loud buzzing, or vibrating noise coming from the front of my car. It can't really be felt in the steering wheel..maybe a little, but I can feel it in the floor of the car. It sounds like the tires maybe, sort of like I have some ridiculously aggressive mud tires on it, or something, but I just had new tires put on the car around 170,000 kms, so I'm sort of hoping its not something with them. Then again, I'd rather replace a front tire than a tie rod, front bearing, control arm, drive shaft, etc. Also, the noise is only very noticeable around 60-65 km/h and again around 90-100 km/h. When cruising at say 62 km/h, if I pop the transmission into neutral the noise is still there, so I'm going to rule out transmission, or motor mounts, or an exhaust noise. So any ideas? Broken belt in a tire? Something in the steering? Oh, also, sounds like its coming from the passenger side...I think. Thanks.
That cop took the whole thing way out of context. I mean, I was only going 145 Km/h in that
80 km/h zone because I was drunk and I wanted to get off the roads.
check under your irlfreinds bed. if the toy is gone, then she dropped it behind the dash.
actually it is probably tire noise due to worn tires or the tires are out of balance. or worse, you have a bad wheel bearing.
rotate the tire and see if its still there, it can't hurt and you will have eliminated one possibility.
It was a wheel bearing, I swapped it out, noise is gone. Now theres a loud clunk coming from that wheel when I turn....@!#$! Whats that about? Did i possibly tighten something too much?

The clunk is the CV joint if the clunk sound is in sync with the rotation of the tire. It is possible to damage the CV joint if you overextended it durring the bearing install. The whole halfshaft should be replaced in this case. If you have a manual tranny, it may also be the large boot clamp on the inner CV joint hitting a part of the transmission. I had an issue where the metal piece of my transmission mount busted and rubbed against the CV clamp... it will sound much worse in reverse and then stop when it tears the clamp off.
If the clunk just happens once as you turn the wheel (regardless of vehicle speed) then check the steering rack (which can also be damaged with a wheel bearing install, but not easily), then check the top strut mount.

Close Ken, but way off. There was some dirt under the shock mount. I jacked it up and blew it out with a compressor. Problem solved. But thanks for the thought, very thorough.

Wow, maybe I should have read your WHOLE post. Specifically the part where you tell me to check the top strut mount. Idiot.
