let's say you had $900 to spend on suspension. you have an 01 cav (daily driver) with some decent mods(list in registry) some of the roughest PA roads known to man!
which would you choose?
koni sport kit?
RK Sport coilovers and KYB agx?
tockicko D-spec with KYB?
I also have the car customs tranny mounts and control arm bushings to install too.
difficult one
do what i did, save 200 more and buy the gravanas (if jim will still give you the gp price)
i wonder...they have them listed as full price on there now. I am strongly leaning toward the D-specs and pro-kit. I am taking a couple days to do research and shop around though.
Me:
Eibach Pro Kit on eBay $224
KYB AGX on eBay $368
Rear swaybar on eBay $140
OEM Front Strut Brace on eBay $33
Control arm bushings from Gravana $40
All prices include shipping, and I've still got $95 to spend.

i;d sit down and do research and figure out what you wanted from your suspension....
tokico D-spec with KYB??????!!!
kyb doesnt make springs....
you either want adjustable or you dont
you either want something softer than the other or you dont.
these are just a few of the things YOU have to sit down and figure out. everyone is gonna want something different quite simply because everyone has different goals.
this is the part of modding a car, where you have to figure out what YOU want.
sounds good CTS
I think I have decided on AGX/pro kit setup; it sounds like the most hassle-free economic way to go for performance... I already have the control arm bushings (and tranny mounts) and front strut tower brace...I could maybe get the rear strut brace also.
oops...sorry event. that was supposed to read Tokico full kit (the one that comes with the springs)
I know this my decision...would I be correct to say that the AGX and Pro kit would be the most hassle-free?
well I took the quiz in the FAQ and decided on AGX and eibach pro kit. this is after all my first attempt at it and this sounds like I could pull it off fairly easy and be pleased with the result. Maybe in the future I could try a different setup...but for now I feel this will do. thanks everyone for the advice and all the help!
-How low do you want to be from stock? The lower you go the harsher the ride.
1.4 to 1.6
-How soft or stiff do you want ride quality?
soft enough for daily driving but stiff enough as well
-How much do you want to pay?
well I have $900 to play with
-How many times do you want to half-arse this before its done right?
none!!!!
-How quick do you want to be able to adjust it? Or are you into adjusting at all?
help me out here...I know I don't want to go with the yellows because of the pain install I read so much about...so I will say yes to adjust-ability
-How critical are you when it comes to being COMPLETELY EVEN?
not so much for show...just for performance
-How are the roads in your area?
fair in some areas and pretty bad in others
its good to find people with common sense these days
on the adjusting part... thats mainly more for height control, but with springs you wont have to worry.
pretty much you should be set with your choice. i'm in pa quite a bit as well as md, va, and DC, so i sadly can vouch for the roads in this area.
Yeah. Like Event said, it's really up to you. You asked what I would do, so I listed it off. Obviously you have some of that stuff already (I do too). You are already well on your way to a suspension that you will love for daily and aggressive driving. It would be OK for auto-X and some of that stuff, but there are better choices.
Don't let the installation of Konis scare you. It's really not that bad. Yes you have to cut stuff. But anyone with a drill, hacksaw, and patience will have very little problems (that patience thing gets everyone).
Both AGX and D-Specs are great struts, so it's really your choice.
Eibach isn't the best spring (
there is no best), but in my
opinion it is the best performance for the cost, for your average tuner.
Like Event says,
start with the meat and potatoes (struts and springs). Then fine tune it with tower braces, bushings, and all the rest.
meat and potatoes first... mmm oh sorry..
well I think I am goin to order my agx's from jdmwerks on ebay...i've heard good things about them..
hmm..you say that eibach is not the best spring? I am still kinda iffy on which ones to get. I know the AGX will warrant a 1.5 drop but would the Sprint 1.6 inch sport springs void it?
anyone have the sprint/agx setup? wanna testify? how low did you go?
stick with agx, they are def a better quality spring...
above you said you were in it for performance.... thats pretty much eibach.

A suspension the makes you smile: $priceless

On the whole best thing. I say they're not the best, because for something to be the best, it would have to be the best for everyone. There is no such thing. I think the results you want will be provided by the Eibach ProKit. If you wanted to semi-slam you car (which degrades performace), then you should go for something more like the Sportslines.
I think Event might have meant to say that Eibach are a better quality spring. (could also be that AGX are a better quality strut). With a sig like that, who knows what he's thinking
My suspension makes me smile.
Eibach Anti-Roll Kit
Eibach Sportlines
Tokico D-Spec Shocks/Struts
Vibrant Front/Rear STB
Just wish I would have added bushing when I did all of that install.
Suspensions that evoke smiles...
I personally love my setup. If the road is completely crap, then this is a little on the harsh side, but everywhere else its pretty decent (keeping in mind that I autocross pretty regularly)
Vibrant strut tower bars (Front/Rear)
Addco 1" swaybars (Front/Rear, the rear also retains the stock swaybar)
Poly suspension bushings
Poly engine/tranny mounts (not exactly suspension, but...)
Subframe brace (Should have made one instead of spending $80, but live and learn)
Camber adjustment bolts
Koni Sport Kit
Alignment settings:
1 degree negative camber in the front
0 camber rear (too much of a pain to adjust anyway)
0 toe front/rear (daily driver, don't want to eat the tires in 3 weeks)
~5 front caster (mostly from the 1.8" drop, not really adjustable with stock strut mounts)
I don't get adjustable ride height like I would have if I had done Konis and Ground Control, but being a kit like that means that all the pieces fit together well (and they do). I do get externally adjustable damping, which is really nice for track days. I can ride around town on the softest setting then make things super-stiff for competition in about a minute.
Body roll is minimized (almost non-existent)
On good tires (stock size falken azenis sport st215 all around) turn-in is phenominal.
Understeer can be almost completely tuned out by making the rear struts as hard as possible and leaving the front struts relatively soft or tuned in by making the fronts harder than the rears. With the struts on full soft the steering behavior is neutral in normal driving, and understeers a little at the limit.
I drive this car everyday to work 20 min each way, with the struts on full soft, it's firm, but not harsh for the most part. You do feel every bump however, which might be mitigated when I get more forgiving rubber for the winter driving season (Falkens have exceedingly stiff sidewalls, great for competition, but not the ideal for everyday use).

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.

just an FYI...
no rear of any 3rd gen EVER had a stock swaybar...
that straight bar in the trailing beam doesnt exactly function as a swaybar as swaybars have 3 sides for input when its a round bar..
