is that piece replace able. if so what do i have to remove to get it off. it looks like a bunch of bolts and the exhaust has to be dropped. also does the rail that runs from the radiator to that piece that connects the control arms is that bolted in or what. do any of these pieces have to be welded. also my rim has a dent it with i think let the air out. is there any way that i warped the tire?
You're talking about the subframes (just FYI, so you don't sound like you don't know what you're talking about
)
They are only bolted on, including the subframe brace (the piece between the two).
The wheel is the steel part (its not called a rim), and the tire is the rubber part. So no, there is no way you could have warped a tire. If you have a bent wheel, replacement is the only way to go, unless you want to shell out a ton of money to have it straigtened and wait for a few weeks to get it back.
The metal inner part is called a "wheel" (most call it a wheel, I call it a rim too; whatever), the rubber part is the "tire". Bent wheels are generally toast as James said.
The layers of a tire can separate (internally), which may be what you're thinking of as warped. It will make funny noises and/or vibrations as it goes round. This almost always happens from the car sitting for along time (year or more).
The sub-frame is bolted on to the frame (6 big bolts near the firewall), and in front to the radiator support. The control arms each have two bolts (one lateral, one vertical) holding them to the sub-frame; and a ball joint at the other end holding it to the knuckle.
Be very careful taking the sub-frame loose. It holds some critical stuff in there, and is bolted to quite a few things (control arms, tranny, engine brace, few other things). Why do you want to take it loose anyway?
i need to get it off cause i busted it going over a curb. its busted right at the control arm. so i need to replace it. i know what the rim and tire is im not stupid i dont know were you guys figured i didnt know what it was called. i am in collision and repair school. i just havent gotten to the suspension part yet.
Also will the subframe work off of any car(cavy).. i have a 99 2200 3 speed
thanks for the help
Didn't mean to insult you with the tire/rim/wheel thing; just following up on what James said.
Yeah the subframe is the same for all 95-05 J-bodies (Manual or Auto).
If you "busted" that I would be weary of unibody-frame damage.
oh its coo im sure i could have worded myself differently.
thanks
