i know i cant drop it more than like 1.2inches with the stockers on. will i even get better handling with a small drop like that? and are the springs stiffer? Also whats a good company for a small drop? i read that suspension techniques and tein makes them in the faq. thanks alot
If you're talking about suspension tech, yes they will improve handling, they are a good choice, and I'll be switching to them this winter... But:
I've used this analogy before. The numbers are totally made up, just go with it..
Swapping springs will add 20% to your handling. If you just do that then the improvement will be small. If you do just struts, you'll add 75%, a larger improvement. If you do both you'll get 90% improvement.
Addings sway-bars to suit your driving, adds another 15%. Strut braces another 10%. Bushing another 15%. Larger diameter, high traction, stiff sidewall tires, adds another 50%.
When you pile all that stuff up your suspension (given my
made up numbers) would be +196% better than stock.
Just doing one thing will make a small difference; when you do multiple items, especially the larger ones, the difference becomes much more noticeable.
You can put them on stock struts. But they will not last too long, maybe a year or so. If you really beat on them you could blow them quicker, but it is inevitable.
Confused?
Best springs for stock struts... are stock springs.
no lowering spring is made for stock struts. do not do it. it will eventually wear and blow. the stock struts barely handle the stock springs
These however have proved to be good for springs like the 1.2 inch lowering springs by progressive technologies and stracing. Anything more than that and you are chancing it.

the suspension faq is saying that oem stock and oem replacement are good for a 1.2inch drop by the one that i had questioned but your saying its wrong?
Someone just came on here and blew strut those struts on a 1.4" drop. It will just be a matter of time before they blow and when they do blow. You may not even realize because you will be use to the bouncy ride. Why not just do it right, to many stories of people saying "i should have listened"

i want to do it right but if the faq says that 1.2 inch drop and stock struts is alright and your saying thats wrong than why is the faq up there just get rid of it if its wrong and dont think im taking shortcuts just because im misinformed from that sticky. SERIOUSLY TAKE THAT S HIT OFF IF ITS MISIFORMATION
The guy's got a point. Maybe the spring rate is pretty close to stock so it won't damage the struts as much. Who knows there's also people who have road around with sportline and stocks and it's a year until they blow.

I know a guy with a Prokit on GR2's seemed a little odd, but i guess if they blow out on him, his fault..

It's not misinformation. Re-read my comment near the top.
They will work on stock strut but how long will they last. Sportline and stock struts those on most have blown in less than a month. Even on Pro kit some people have blown them in as little as 3 months. It is a matter of spending money to do it once ot doing it twice meaning taking suspension apart twice, alighment twice.

Exclude the GM parts, since there is no upgraded struts from the factory.
I think if you get Suspension Techniques (1.2") or Tein H-tech (1") and match them with GR-2's you will be ok. AGX's would be ideal, but the GR-2's will probably get the job done. You may experience a little bounce with them though since they aren't quite stiff enough to compensate for the new spring rates.
gr2 will work but they will blow eventually
All struts blow eventually

^ bingo!
Even on stock springs... my stock front struts were blown after 20,000 kms.
I found that out, when I went to lower it on Eibach Sportlines. I did it anyway... and rode around for a year on blown stock struts and sportlines... bouncy as hell, looked awesome, handled ok (lowered centre of gravity, it was alright)... but one guy in Toronto on my way to the 01 Bash in Ohio asked me "why did you cut your springs?" when I hadn't... it was sad.
The stock suspension is Boge & Sachs... good stuff... if you don't plan on lowering it. Anything is better than stock... even OEM replacement stuff.... but it will not last...
Stock springs = Stock struts no other way if you ask me. If you upgrade your springs, do the same to your struts. No regrets and not having to pay for things that go wrong.
I do love my konis

yea but if you do it right they will last longer.
springs will start to sag over time. a long time
springs wear just like any metal.. ever twist a piece of thin metal back and forth? it snaps well springs are made to bulg outwards instead of snapping (sagging ) i just put 4 struts on my car 50 bucks a pop (stock) and have no plans to go with peformance springs till next spring went that happens the struts are being changed with koni's ya gotta do it right........

Metal does not fatigue from "stressing" it, that means bending small amounts (normal driving). Metal fatigues from strain, that means bending it just too far that the metal structure is changed (potholes and speed-bumps will do this).
So realistically, yes, springs will "wear out" or sag; but not if your a gentle driver.

Agreed.

Yes, change your shocks when you lower the car. i did not cause i was broke when i lowered mine, i have koni's on the way now, i have never realized how bouncy the ride is until i had a friend drive the car and saw it from a distance, spend the extra money, its worth it!!
