hey guys i have another poset running under the heading "question", but i was hoping for some more input which i am building a motor for my 97 2.2 5 spd, but i am unsre which block would be best 2.4 block or the 2.3 i know i am going to be using the 2.3 ho heasds, and the w41 cams, but with block the 2.4 is a bigger heavier block, and the balaning shafts in it whiegh it down by about 20 pounds and kill of about 15-18 hp, but that can be corrected also the 2.3 oil pupm seems to be better as it does not cut off, but what should i start witha a 2.3 block or a 2.4 what you think or have or if you had a chance to build the engine you want what would you start with, any inout would be greatly appriciated
If your planning on completely rebuilding the bottom end, I would take the bigger displacement.

you could always bore the 2.3 over if your worried about displacement.but also you can do that to the 2.4 too... won't the oil pump from the 2.3 fit the 2.4? i did i missread something?

comparing block to block the 2.3 can be bored out more than the 2.4 ...comparing cranks the 2.4 is 6lbs lighter ( i think) with a longer stroke ....hence why i like combining the two so very very much

what would be the workable limit of be bore that can be preformed on the block without compromising the block, what would the dicplament be of the 2.3 with a 2.4 moded crank what optimal bore, and what would be the optimal bore on the 2.4 and would a crank change or adjustment be needed, and the oil pump pretty much fits i think there is some stuff that i would need to do i am sure there is a thread somewhere i saw
oh yha how much did you pay ??? if you dont want the rold to know email me
the 2.3 block already has a bigger bore than the 2.4 and can be bored out another .040 safely..i dont know the exact limit of the 2.4 but im sure its been talked about, ill do a search for you....and if your asking how much My block cost the one i got from trs that came with the overbore, and modified to fit the crank and rod clearence was $500
"Freedom 'ought to have its limits"-George W. Bush may 31 1999 (who voted for this idiot?)
is that $500 cdn or usd ??? and i thought the crank was moded for the block not the other way around ??? where did yo uget your block ??
thats 500 usd and the block is worked for the crank...if you work the crank it makes it weaker and they had problems with the crank snapping..that problem has been resolved by modding the journals on the block....but the crank needs work on things like the crank sensor ring
"Freedom 'ought to have its limits"-George W. Bush may 31 1999 (who voted for this idiot?)
explain crank sensor ring ???? pls
ok, it has something to do with the number of notches on the ring ....there is a crank position sensor "cps" on the block...i think the quad has 4 notches on the crank where as the twin cam has like 5 or 6,,or something like that ... anyway the ring will have to be modified..not something i would attempt myself but it has to be taken off to be done.

ok i get it now, i was wonderinf, i know the 086 head is the best is there any stamp id on the intake and if so which one is the best, what is the id on it, also the exhaoust mani is there any real differents from the diff years and if so what stamp id would be on it , or is there an after market headr (i hope ) the wors better the the stock for the 2.3 and who make s it
this 2.4 block is so easy to find though and the 2.3 can find for cheap but are they any guys out here with the2.4 and the 2.3 heads let me know what kind of power you have, is it worth the headache and cost to track down 2.3 ??????
dude i just found like 3 in ontario for you....as far as the 2.4 with 086 head i know of at least one guy on here that has it done but i cant remember his name

what would be the harderest thing of this swap wireing ??? stil not sure if 2.4 or 2.3, althought the 3.4 can be be bored out what will the block be like after wards interms of strength or life, also if any know how far i can bore a 2.4 saflet let me know, last 2.3 with the 2.4 crank whatit the strock difference between that and a 2.4 with the .24 crank or after market crank
2.3L bored .030" over with the 2.4L crank fitted = 2.6L of daily driven hell on earth LOL
The Race Shop to get-r-dun (LOL)
making the upgrade soon, I've got the motor, just need the crank.
are you using a stock 2.4 crank or and aftermarket 2.4 crank, modded ??? you got any leads on another 2.3 blook, i am having a hell of a time find one in good condition, !! also can you not bore that out to .040 ??? if so why not any reason or just preference ??
if its a good PnP then id say its a deal, a 086 head can cost upward of 100 and my PnP on my head cost me upward af 300+ so if ya trust the guy go for it...i just personally like to deal with people i know...the reason i only went with .030 is prefernce..you can go .040 safely....if you order the stroker from TRS it comes all together , already assembled for you to bolt up...i think the worked block is like 500 and then add the worked crank which i THINK is another 500, now you CAN use stock 2.4 rods and HO pistons with this setup if you like, but it wont be as strong and it wont be as light meaning you wont be able to rev as high, which could lead to problems...he sells nice eagle rods for i think 325? a set and pistons are your choice..i went with ross pistons for 400 the best thing you can probably do is go to www.the-race-shop.com and get the phone number and call and ask that way youll at least know some shipping to..they are located in ohio i belive so shipping isnt far
"Freedom 'ought to have its limits"-George W. Bush may 31 1999 (who voted for this idiot?)
do you no if it is any cheaper if i bring them the block ??
well...lets look at it like this..if you have to BUY the block your self( which the one you showed me on ebay was how much?) then you have to pay to ship it to where you want(if you want anything done to it) then pay for the work and then pay to ship it back....when on the other hand you could just pay for the worked block and one way shipping
....your choice

I'm taking him my block/crank when I get the stroker done, and picking it up when it's finished.
Stock 2.4L crank, block align bored to the 2.4L crank journals, custom rods and pistons, reluctor ring modded or CPS moved in the block (I prefer the crank modded myself), .030" bore with pistons and rings 10.5:1 compression. should be over 200WHP with a stage 3 clutch, more I'm hoping.
Go with TRS, he's the man.
