Newb intro., and 2002 ohv 2.2 auto gas mileage

Newb here, i'm posting on behalf of my g/f's 2002 auto 2.2 ohv base Cavalier. I'm a regular over on the BMW forums (bimmerfest), i've got a 98 540i 6-spd. I'm slowly getting more familiar with the Cavalier. So far, i've replaced the speakers with some mediocre Pioneers to get her by since her rears blew, and the fronts were crap to begin with. Other than that, it's been a VERY solid car, 84k miles, regular oil changes using 5w30 in mild TX winters, and 10w30 in the hot summers, mobil1 Driveclean. We are looking into some of the 16" 5 spoke OEM alloys, a mild 1.2-1.4" drop, sways and strut bars. It's never going to handle like a BMW, but it's really not that bad right now....just needs a few tweaks.

What kind of mileage can I expect from the 2.2ohv auto? Recently, with about 70% highway, and 30% city, we got 24mpg. I personally think it should be higher, as it's seen 44 before. I have a new pre-cat o2 sensor ready to install later this afternoon in hopes that'll restore some mileage and some of the lost power i think it used to have.

2002 Cavalier 4D auto, white/gray, Kenwood EZ700SR, 10" Kenwood sub, Pioneer 4x6/6x9s, stock otherwise. Susp. Tech. springs coming soon...
1998 BMW 540i 6-spd, lots of mods.
1990 BMW 557i LS1 swap.

That's about what I get for milage in Florida (very similar conditions) with the A/C on and moderately spirited driving. I also have the three speed (TH125C/3T40) transmission with 3.08:1 final drive (stock was 2.84:1) and a Yank 3000 rpm stall torque converter (stock stall of 2375 rpm), which cuts the milage a little bit, but not as much as most would think.

Florida here as well, I get about 24-26 mpg on average, so I would say your normal too.
