Does anyone know for sure the differences between the 972.2 and 98 2200 exhaust manifold's as welll as the exhaust where it mounts to the exhaust manifolds on these motor's? For instance would a 97 2.2 exhaust bolt up to a 98 2200 exhaust manifold?

the ports on the 98 are a little smaller, and higher up on the head than those on the 97. bolt pattern is the same, however, the ports do not line up.

ok thanks. Do you know about the downpipe's working with the other manifold's?

the downpipes should be the same... everything else on the exhaust is. so far as i'm aware, the only differences are in the ports, which would mean subtle changes in the primaries, but the rest i believe is the same. then again, i could be completely wrong.

I dont see why anything would be different, or at least so different that you couldn't compensate for it easily. I mean, people have gotten in the past (and probably still) 2.2 headers and put on the 2200 and everything lines up ok, except for the exhaust ports of course.
so the exhaust wouldnt work cause the ports dont match but they bolt right on to each other. what would that cause if i bolted the exhaust and the ports didnt match?
they match up fine, i have one on my car right now with no exhaust leaks, i have a 98 cavalier with a 97 sunfire manifold
the ports are not the same....it causes a 30% block on the 2200 head.....if you look at it its not that fare of but when its running its a wall that stop flow by 30%....air flow is like a river flowing and if somthing little is in the way its a big problem..
Well for what I was looking for, the 2.2 OHV exhaust (not manifold) will bolt up to a 2200 manifold.

yes i think thats true....i think its from 95-02 have the same cat back...
