2000 Sunfire GT Convertible
Here is the problem.
Will always go down properly, quickly. Down is always working fine.
When pushing the handle forwards to go up, the handle needs to be held between 5 and 40 seconds before the top will BEGIN to move. Once it begins moving it will go up at the regular speed as if nothing was wrong.
I looked through the convertible service manual, and searched the forums, just wondering if anyone has seen this issue before.
Thanks
I had the same problem... then it got worse, it would start to move, then get about a third of the way up, then stop.... wait.... then go again.... another little bit.... stop.... then wait.... then go again. Would take 5 minutes to close the top.
Turns out the relay for the top motors in the trunk (it's on the right side, attached to the trunk hinge assembly) was burning up... changed it out, and it's good as new.
Oh cool that sounds like a quick fix - is it just a standard 12v relay?,
I'll take a look in the trunk tomorrow, is there any disassembly or is the relay easially accessible
Nope, it's a special one. Looks like two relays sandwiched together, I figure there's two sets of contacts in it... never really looked at it. I have an extra one laying around here somewhere, but since I just moved it'll probably take me a month or more to find it... otherwise you could have had it. GM dealer is probably your fastest bet.
