I'm new to this forum, even though I have been reading them for several months trying to learn all I can, but anyways.. My car developed a rod knock one day after a hard pull though first gear, 3 spd auto btw, (i know its very crappy tranny, i totally agree) I dropped the oil pan today and my number 1 cylinder i believe it is (the one closest to the drive belt) is shot... the other three seem fine.. and I pulled a couple little pieces of metal out of the oil pump filter.. and before the car started knocking, my oil ligh came on at a idle when the car was hot..
My question is what should I be replacing in this motor? rod bearings are for sure, but should I be worried about the oil pump or anything else after finding them metal shavings?
Well, since no replies yet, I guess tomorrow I will inspect my oil pump.. I've never pulled one out.. any advice? and flush the engine the best I can I guess..
ok well first off rod bearings the oil pump wouldnt be a bad idea since metal ran through it main bearings are probably bad the crankshaft might atleast need to be turned if not a new one the #1 rod needs to be replaced or resized if possible i would just get a new onethen i would pull the timing cover check the camshaft for grooves on the bearing surface if there are grooves change the camshaft and then check the cam bearings ive rebuilt 4 2.2ohv motors and all those things needed to be replaced in all but one engine
