Lightweight and underdrive pulleys for the v6 crowd
Thursday, June 04, 2009 9:10 PM
I have exchanged a few e mails with MRZ and depending on interest they may become a supporting vendor. It is a good possibility if this feeler goes well that they would be starting a GP in the near future.

As of now they offer a lightened underdrive crank pulley for the 60 degree v6. Its about $135 plus shipping. The more people wanting in on a GP the more the price drops so I'm just looking for a little feedback on who would possibly be into getting one.

As a side note; they also offer pulleys for the eco, and have alternator pulleys. Not to step on MD's feet but just throwing it out there.

If anybody has any other thoughts on the subject let me know.

Sorry, I'm already working on a full set of 4 with the shop that makes my parts.

I already bought the stock size lightened pulley from Z-spec, as I was planning on possibly adding a supercharger. That, and 40 bucks was hard to pass up.

SHOoff, what charger are you thinking? I've been playing around with modifying a LIM to take an M90, but I've also considered one like an MR2 uses, and mounting it down behind the engine (would most likely take some exhaust rerouting, but should fit).

I think I'm actually going with a pair of T25's if I can fit them, and running them through an air-water IC. I was just curious what you are thinking.

I was wanting whatever I can fit in the A/C bracket. An M90 would be rough to fit in there. Could probably use the T-bird one, but would still have to at least re-locate the oil filter, and It may still hit the starter. So a centrifugal unit would probably be the best, though they're pretty damn expensive. As far as mounting an M90 on the UIM... not gonna happen, unless you feel like cutting a hole in the hood.

Lower, not upper.

I already mocked it up, and it clears, but it would require major work. I would need to plug the injector bosses, mill out the center of the manifold, make a plate for the M90, and mill in new bosses for the injectors to the rails were on the outside of the M90. I already went over it with the fab and machine shop, and it's do-able, but I still think I'm going turbo.

For your unit, check out the MR2 unit. I think it's an M62, but it's got an AC style pulley on it, and a 2.5" or 3" 90° elbow on the bottom, so it could easily be hooked up to piping, and even a FMIC.

On the L67 the injectors are in the head, not the LIM. Because of the supercharger, might be the issue you're running into, that and the 60 degree V being a bit smaller. My thought on how to do it on the manifold would be to use the T-bird M90 and mount it upside down and have it blow into the bottom of an upper.

And M62? No way, they're maxing those out on Cobalt SS's, why would I waste time.

I thought the T-bird was an M62 as well. Maybe it's just the changes in the housing that make it look smaller. It sounds like the idea I had a while ago. I was looking at the design of the charger setup on the new Mustangs, and the charger is upside down like that, with runners coming down around it. The only thing that I'm thinking is that when you put the charger and then the UIM on there, it will have hood clearance issues. But if you do it, I'd love to see it.

As for the injectors, I didn't run into a problem with that. I would be able to get them in there, but like I said, I just decided I wanted to go turbo. I wanted to be able to push top end more.

I never found enough demand to make any for the V6 crowd. I really have been asked only twice in the 4 years I been making pulleys.....

My alternator pulley is still lighter.

MD- Since I am going with the MRZ crank pulley, what do you have in a slightly smaller/lightweight alternator pulley. It would be a 6 rib and MRZ's pulley is 3.3 oz, what does yours weigh. The weight is not a huge concern but Im curious. Shoot me a PM with price and details if need be might have to have you bring one to the bash if you've got one handy.

I haven't made a production 6 rib alternator pulley yet, but if i did it would be under 3oz, and around $50.

Maybe I will just have to run a 5 rib belt then What are the specs on your current alt pulley? Unless you would have a 6 rib ready in the near future, I wont need it for a month or so.

Weighs less than 3oz, and is stock Ld9, L61, and LD2 pulley diameter.

New alternator design should be even lighter.

Pulley is amazing! I couldnt believe how light it was when I picked it up. Its funny because my crank pulley came in today and I was looking at them both. Your alt pulley is way more finished and nice looking. The crank pulley seems like a good product, but I can tell it was never polished and will take a little time to have it shining like yours.

Thank you very much and cant wait to get them on.

Nobody showed interest so we kind of abandoned the "feeler". I ended up just ordering one from MRZ on my own.

You can get the crank pulley on MRZ's website or on ebay. As for the alternator pulley it is made by -MD-Enforcer the guy from a few posts up^^^ Both have great products and I am very happy with them. Got to meet Mike (MD) at the bash to get my pulley and it was a pleasant exchange. I only talked to Mathieu of MRZ via e mail but he was very friendly and helpful also. Either way, you wont be dissapointed with the service or the final product.

Hope this helps.
