P0171 is a lean code. You have a fueling issue... if the car is stalling out, then it's likely the fuel pump on it's way out. I've had this numerous times on several cars... and every time, it was the fuel pump that needed changing. Changing the fuel filter helped for a little bit (once it was the original filter at 200,000 kilometers... damn thing was clogged solid...) but eventually it's always drop the tank and swap the pump.

ok along with the code it bucks and eventually boggs down, i dropped the tank and replaced the fuel pump, drove fine for a day or two no bogging down or acting up, but still does it some times, if i get on it. what could it be FPR? also changed the map sensor. not sure wht my nect step is.

ill try and figure it out tomorrow at the shop if im not to busy. mines been this way ever since my cat converter decided to spit out of my exhaust lol. mine tends to drop to around 750 rpms then down to 500 or below at an almost complete stop. most of the time it recovers but ive stalled twice.

Auto's are suppose to idle at 650 anyways, so 750 is not low.

it seems like it misfires, my buddy watched it on his scan tool, that does live data, ignition timing is jumping when it starts to buck or misfire, any where from 0-36 or higher. not sure what to make of it.

well dunno if this happens with the OP's car as well.
but when my car does what i said, and what furious 2.2 said
as well as what the OP had to say. mine also, when i rev it,
it doesnt drop back down the RPMs normal. they go down really
slow and such....so i hope this helps pin point/help find the problem

for OP, furious 2.2, and i.

i will look into the vaccum, i kinda heard that before.
but wasnt sure if that was it, didnt sound right.
but now it does.

furious or sk8rguy, if u guys find out the answer.
please post up. because my car has been doing this
for quite some time now, and i wanna get her fixed.

because it also seams, because of this, my car is geting like 16 MPG!

That's the problem. More than one header on the 2.2. Makes it run lean.

checked it out and my choking theory was correct its not getting enough fuel. put some fuel system cleaner in it and gonna see how that plays out.

well if not im doin a new fuel rail and injectors (no im not paying for them) and then maybe take the head off and check the valves. one of the perks to having a parts car and an extra car to drive around lol.

well i also took a look at it the other day i used a wynns fuel system cleaner, injector cleaner, combustion chamber cleaner, and throttle body cleaner. basically its almost like using sea foam on the engine. i did this two days ago, hasnt been acting up, ive been driving it pretty hard doesnt do any bucking or anything. seems to be fine, i'll see how its running at the end of the week.

Well... start off by checking if that fuel pump of yours is running or not. Get a fuel pressure gauge, and stick it on the rail. If the pressure drops, you've got a dying fuel pump.

You can throw crap at it all day long... but if you don't bother to find out what the actual problem is... you're just wasting your money! (Garages love people like you...)

yes i love ppl that like to spend money seeing as how i work at a garage lol. but ya used the stp injector cleaner seems to be working just fine now. plan on doing all the good stuff i should have done like 3 months ago (trans flush, plugs/wires, etc, etc) and get it back on track lol. yes ive been lazy and cheap with it. also should have my talon running soon so i can rip into the cav.
