2000 Cavalier coupe with abs light on.

Hey all, I'm new and just want to ask if anyone else has had the same issue I am.

my issue is the ABS light is on, I've read threw the codes, and it is saying short/open circuit for the RR. I changed out the wheel hub and it fixed it till i drove it, then it was intermittently on and off. I found the bearing was defective, and got another installed. But now my ABS light is just steady on. any ideas?? My uncle and I, both mechanics, are thinking I have a break in one of the wires under the carpeting, but I don't have time to pull apart my daily driver.

Check the connection with a dvom see what kinda voltage you are getting it may not be a short and then check the sensor by spinning the wheel and see what you get and i would use a scan tool to figure out why it is constantly on unless its just the short code standing then i would go for the wiring diagram

If you are both mechanics then you should have checked the wiring before just throwing parts at it. Not sure why nobody ever seems to be able to grasp the concept that if its an open or short the wiring is a damn good place to check.

I had the same issue once. Discovered the right rear turn socket was shorting out replaced socket after going threw two bulds now no short and abs light is not on all the time. Strange.

Did you check that the wheel sensor is securely connected? Maybe it was coming out, hence the tempermental light on, connection coming in & out... then maybe it finally popped all the way out? Always easier to start with the most simple of possibilities. When I did my brakes one somehow popped out. I also found that it doesn't take much for the fronts to get pinched behind the ball joint. Check to make sure nothing got pinched and started shorting out.

so been busy lately, I've been threw all the wiring, nothing, then changed the first hub, and it went off and came back on, found i had a bad bearing in the new hub, replaced that but the ABS light came right back on,. been threw all the grounds. still can't find it. i think its a computer issue. good god. New issue though...

my odometer is dim as all hell. called and talked to the parts guys at a dealership, only way to get it fixed is to send it to them for 3-5 weeks while the they ship it to florda, and get it fixed... any aftermarket things anyone thinks may help???

yep. get another cluster. its much cheaper than what the dealership will charge for service of your old cluster, and is a super easy swap.

Forgive thy noobness but what is a cluster and how do you replace it.

the gauge cluster. take the dash pad off, and the front bezel, and unbolt the cluster. there's hundreds of walkthroughs if you search interior, maintenance, A&E, and third gen forums.

Ah, ty then you are saying that there might be a short there and replacing cluster is the only other thing to do. After checking the rest of corse. Can't it also be the ABS fuse. Or even. Jut a frayed wire in trunk or or or. Heck id reather check the rest of the possible issues before taken the time to pull the dash off to replace the cluster. You might have done that before but not everyone esp a noob has not and after looken into how to do it looks kinda easy but time sonsuming.

I think i my ABS light is a computer issue, so on it will stay. but my other issue was with my odometer is starting to go, and it Pa you have to have a working odometer to pass state inspections. hense replacing my cluster is the only option there.
