I haven't tried different batteries in this application, but in my experience with button batteries, you usually can't substitute. They vary in thickness, and the compartments are made so specific to their battery type that they will not accommodate a thicker one, and a thinner one will not maintain a good connection with the contacts. Personally, I'd just check online. You should be able to score a pack that won't run you any more than buying local, even with shipping, and just give it a few days. Surely you can go without for a few?
