Stumbles when you hit the gas
Wednesday, December 28, 2011 6:49 PM
So, recently my Cavi has started a new trick where after it has been driven for about 20-30 minutes, and after sitting at a stop for a minute, the car will stumble/hesitate/etc when you hit the gas. But, it'd go after a second. But, today it died at a stop light when I hit the gas. Car had been running for 20 mins at this point. I then drove the car on the highway for an hour and a half. When I got off the highway and to the house(and around the Walmart parking lot), the car did great without hesitating. Little background on the car, its a 1997 2.2 with 277k miles. Oil has 1k miles on it (I had a shop do it and I think they used 5w30, car doesn't seem to like it that much), spark plugs have maybe 500 on them (used NGKs). It is still getting 27-30 MPG and idles great. Just stumbles when you hit the gas.

the first thing i would change is the fuel filter it may just not be getting enough fuel next it could be the fuel pump going also. i would try getting new ones a fuel pump runs around 80 bucks and a filter runs about 10 to 15 dollars so try the filter first cheap and easy fix.

lol, 249.99 for a pump, but for 289.99 you get the tank, fuel pump, and straps.

I would do the 289.99 and sell the extras.

Ya I would be monitoring vaccum, fuel and spark while driving.

I think it might be an electrical issue? Who knows. I just took the car on a 500 mile road trip, it ran perfect.

That's what I was thinking. It's fairly new, but I think it has a lifetime warranty on it. Gotta find that receipt.

MAP sensor and TPS sensor would be the first things I checked with those symptoms.

Great news is that this car doesn't have a MAP sensor, so that kinda narrows it down...

I'm wondering if the car just wasn't burning oil and loading up at idle? I changed the oil yesterday, and it seems the shop that did it before me (I had a coupon, not doing that again) put in 4.5-5 quarts. I definitely noticed the burning oil smell at idle, but just attributed it to having 279K miles...

Or since he has a '97 he can grab a Blazer fuel pump...
