Extra cost for cavy?
Friday, May 13, 2005 9:14 PM
Every audio place i've went to that installs for free says they charge extra for cavys because of the dash. Is this fair? Is the dash that hard to get into? oh, and if so the charge is $30.00 is the a good price? i welcome any input on this matter.

well, 30 bucks really isn't that much to me, compared to some. I had a friend quoted 180 for a 2000 Cavy a couple years ago for a friend. So I decided to do it myself. Really not that hard if you take your time.

bull@!#$ I don't believe that. But installing a deck in there is pretty straight forward.

The longest part is connecting the harness and wires if you solder them.. or tearin the dash apart put none of it is really hard.. just time consuming

not counting wiring the harness. that takes more time. but if its a smart harness like CC uses then yes.

I have installed one in 11 minutes, and that includes cutting the rear of the dash to make it sit flush. After doing quite a few of them, I would say they are one of the easiest cars to do. p.s. I did a neon in 8 minutes once, that is my record.

the $30 could have been for the dash peice to make it a din instend of our din and a half... id say my best time was between 15-18 mins to install with a harness

^^ $30 is a lot to pay for that piece when it can be had for about 10-15 bucks

eight minutes for a neon? You can move faster. Just snap off, unscrew, then snap back in. While cavy dashes are harder than most cars, any shop that says they're gonna charge extra should give you free head for being a bunch of as$holes. We get so many cavies, all my installers can break one down, cut the ridge in the mounting slot, and pop in a radio in under fifteen minutes. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to get it put back together, but I say its not bad for the fact that whole damn dash has to come apart.

8 minutes? Wow, i could break into my neon(windows all rolled up) rip out my stereo, and put in a new one in under 5minutes. Did it at school once to prove a point. But i did already have the harness all wired up.

Makes it really easy to break into the car when you are 6'7", i can get the window out of the gasket, and pop the lock really quick.
