hey im lookin to get a type r and im not sure to get either a 2 ohm or 4 ohm? whats the difference? also i was curious, im going for sound quality and listen to everything but country, would a 10" be better than a 12" then? also, what are some good but cheaper brands for amps? or would you suggest stayin everything alpine?
All depends on what amp you have for if you're going to need dual 4 or dual 2 ohm subwoofers. As for amps, everyone's going to say something different, some will say jl, some will say ma audio or lanzar, some will say ed or powerbass. It all depends on what you want.
what are some good amps that arent insanely priced like the alpine and kicker amps? i dont know many brands but ive been readin a lot. ive heard a lot of negative stuff about lanzar but my friend just bought one and loves it cuz it was so cheap.
so a dual 2 or a dual 4, one wont sound better than the other if i got an amp that was the same out put and brand and model just different ohm hooked up to it?
Legacy carries good cheap amps. My friend has had a legacy 1200 watt amp powering 2 12" mtx for about 5 months. Sounds great he bought the amp for 120 shipped.
Good should not be used when talking about legacy amps, they're WAY overrated on wattage, and very cheaply made. Check out a hifoniks monoblock.

the difference is...how much power your amp will put at at them loads.
if you take X amp, and hook it up to 4ohms, it'll put out so much power. if you hook it up to 2 ohms, it'll put out twice that power. you'll hear a difference in sound, and it'll probably be the sound of your sub getting cooked.
(basic example^^)
The reason they offer subs in different configurations like that, is for wiring options.

Well im just sayin cheap amps are not always bad quality. My friend has had good experience with the legacy and if your not looking for competition sound then you dont need a $500 amp to run your subs. Just do some searching on the net and read some reviews and buy what you think is the best.
so as long as i put the same wattage to the sub, they will sound the same whether its a ohm or a 4 ohm? also, im goin for sq, so is the assumption of a 10" over a 12" a good idea? will the difference be noticable?
Don't bump, it's retarded. 800 watts @ 4 ohm is going to sound the same as 800 watts @ 1 ohm. 10's and 12's and 15's and 18's, if in the right box, are going to give you good sq. Just don't get the square kicker subs.
so a 10 wont sound better sound quality wise than a 12 as long as i have the correct size box? the 12 will be louder though right?
I have 1 10" my dad has 2 8" and his car is a lot cleaner sounding than mine.

im not sure, but i dont think they make type r's in 8"
With the right box, you can have an 8, 10, 12, 15, or even an 18 will all sound the same with the same power.
so how do you know what size to get then?
Pick whatever you want, rule of thumb, the smaller the sub, usually the smaller box you can go with.
but they will all be the same sq? will one be louder than the other? is there any advantage to buyin two over having just one?
Firstcar: different car, different box, different subs, different amps, different head unit, different front stage, different install ALL effect sound, not just size, so your dads car having 2 8s and sounding better than your 1 10 has nothing to do with why one has better SQ than the other
and also for this thread: I dont see anything wrong with running 2 12 inch type Rs,... if thats your choice and you dont want to break the bank on an amp check e bay for Cadence refurbs, look for DEI amps too(Directed, Viper, PPI, Orion), ikesound.com has a lot of refurbs on their site usualy. MA Audio has not disapointed me either, with my minimal hands on experience with them, but im not thinking for a good SQ install that MA would be the best choice.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
