headlight switch/problems
Saturday, April 08, 2006 5:24 PM
Ok, so I got my new ballast back and went to get my headlights working again, and blew a relay as well, fixed that, but now I have a problem with my headlights.

When i lock/unlock the car my headlights flash as normal, but the switch doesnt switch on my headlights. It works for the driving lights, but doesnt turn on the headlights.

So my guess is that the switch is bad, any way to check this? Also how hard is this to replace? Any suggestions how to test to see further if that is the problem? I will probably end up just hardwiring my HIDs, but want to trouble shoot the switch thing.

i'm guessing you can test it with a volt-ohm meter... or buy a new switch for $15

If it's the headlight switch on the steering column it's more like $100. It's not too hard to change, but you do have to take the column apart. I took the steering wheel off to, but I don't remember if you have to to get to the switch.

You can leave the wheel on.
I had to replace mine after RK Sport's cheap pig tails melted and shorted out after converting to 2k headlights. I had to replace pig tails, bulbs, and the switch (which also worked for DRL but headlight fuctions were dead like yours).
It's not hard to do, just a couple screws if I remember right.

not sure on your year.. but ive replaced mine twice and know of several people who have done so also. Just undo the 3 bolts to take the plastic off the steering column.. theres a couple bolts on the switch and like 2 harness' go to parts store and buy a new switch its pretty easy if thats not the problem then take the switch back
