Whining noise?

Ok guys i need help with my 6x9's....i hooked my new ones up and my amp to them and they work now but theres a nasty whining noise and it gets louder and quieter as i move the gain (0.4 quiet - 6.5 loud) so thanks for any help.

Make sure your ground is on pure clean metal, with no paint, and that your connection is good.

Also, make sure that the RCAs aren't on the same side as your power wire. Some people say it's a myth that this causes alternator whine (which it sounds like you have), but it's worth a try anyway.

If that doesn't help, make sure that your head unit is not past 75%, and that your setting your gains right.

they should be
squareroot(RMSWATTSxOHMS(Speaker))
then put an AC voltmeter on your + and - of the amp, when the voltage is EXACTLY what you got using the math above, then you've got gain right.

Make sure RMSWATTS above is of the smallest watt rating. If the speaker has lower RMS, use that.

check and see if your RCA's are directional, then see if they are draining the Wrong way. we've all done it before.

what Brad just mentioned, and if that does not solve your issue, then it could be your alt whining, which is a sign of its soon to be death.
