Another 00+ factory radio question!
Friday, June 30, 2006 3:06 PM
So, I just bought an "LKQ" radio out of a Sunfire/GA/Montana to put in my Cavalier. It looks like this:

Anyway, I also bought a Peripheral iPod adapter in hook my iPod up to the factory radio - the link for the adapter

So, I plugged everything in (correctly), set the dip switches, and it doesn't register. Now, in the instructions, it says that the adapter will only work for 03-05 Sunfires/GA's, but I'm pretty certain that the radios used from 00-05 are the same (except for the Monsoon radios). Also, when I checked on Crutchfield for an 01 Grand Am it says that the adapter will work with the factory radio.

What the hell is going on?

Yes, it is the standard deck. I figure I'll just sell this one and buy an MP3 deck, since those were only available in the 05 (maybe 04) 'Fires. If it doesn't work after that, I'll just catch my car on fire and go buy a new one

Aside from the adapter... does the deck itself work? ie.. have you installed it, taken the car to a GM dealer to have the BCM reflashed to unlock it?

If not... there's no point in trying to make the adapter work... because you'll never know if it's actually working or not.

Yep, radio works fine... I found that if you turn the key to the accessory position, the radio doesn't lock up. So, the radio works for sure. I should be getting my MP3 deck in the mail on Thursday, so I'll have to see if it works

What about if you turn the car on? If it's locked at that point... you need to visit the dealer to make it work right.

John, in the picture I posted at the top, on the number 2 button, there are the up and down arrows, does that change discs on a CD changer?

I honestly don't know.... check the owners manual for the car it came out of, if you can get your hands on it.

Is that the Crutchfield one as well? That sucks... this sounded like a good way for me to put the stock deck back in...

yep, I'm SOL, too.

I emailed Peripheral's tech support, telling them I had everything correctly installed and it wasn't working, and here's what they said to me:

Quote:

On the single cd player does preset number one advance tracks? It may work and may not this particular radio has not been tested by myself or any of the other engineers..

so, basically, they're selling this product that is supposed to work for 03-05 Sunfires, yet they've never actually tested it on a radio from an 03-05 Sunfire? WTF are they trying to do here? I believe that is false advertising. Now I have to get a hold of the guy I bought it from and hope that they give me a refund, or I am going to be a very angry person.

Looks like I'm going to be buying a @!#$ty FM modulator...
