Uhh...If someone could help...tha'd be peachy

Ok, so I installed my new JVC deck about 10 minutes ago.

Yeah, no sound comes out. Nothing.

Here are some pictures to help out.

See...connected and everything

But here's the problem

I have two wires left over.

One is orange and the other is blue and says "antenna power" on it. Now, there is also a blue connector (on the head unit) that says its for an amplifier or another external source or a power antenna (the diagram showed one that went up and down like when the power is turned on and off) so I don't know.

Do you guys have any idea what could be wrong? I'm totaly stumped. I'm assuming that it has to do with the extra wires or something. No sound at all comes out, the unit works, but no sound.

Thanks in advance

well,

1) never ever use butt connectors

2) orange is an illimination wire.

3) what do you have your 12v switched wire connected too?

4) the blue wire is for your power antenna, do you have one?

you have a blown speaker somewhere. connect it one speaker at a time and try that . JVC is notoriously fickle about its internal amp/ .

Well...I uhh...got it to work.

It was the power antenna. I didn't hook them up at first becuase the one wire was blue with white and the other was solid blue. But I tried it and I heard a little pop, like power was there. So thats all it was.

As for the butt connectors, I had my dad pick some up for me yesterday. But are those better than wire nuts or not?

Either way is hooked up and working (yay) so now I just need a panel removal tool and the stock fronts are gone.

butt connectors are fine to use.

You have the Monsoon system? (Is there a big amp behind the carpet in the trunk, on the driver's side?) If so, that's why it wasn't working.... no power to the amp to tell it to turn on... which you fixed by connecting the remote turn on to the blue wire (which connects to the pink wire in the factory harness, the Monsoon amp turn-on wire).

Ive been doind lots of installs lately. and im asked the same thing over and over. Why dont i just use butt connectors, it makes it easier right?

I solder and heat shrink each connection. Butt connectors have the habit of comming loose, and you lose your connection, yet it looks good anyway. And wire Nuts are only good in HOME wiring. Never use them in car audio.

John-Yeah...I've got the monsoon system And that is interesting, I didn't know that.

El Fuego- Ahh...interesting. I've got a soldering iron, but I don't have a heat gun or anything to shrink around it. So fingers crossed it doesn't come loose.

Not if they are properly crimped. By properly I mean with a real set of crimpers, not the $2 ones from auto zone.

I've personally never had a problem either way. Not everyone is that anal about it to solder and use heat shrink tubing on every connection, lol.

I've soldered, butt spliced (with real electrician's crimpers), and wire nutted with safety tape and never had a problem with any coming loose. I do feel soldering and heatshrinking is the best and you can use a cigarette lighter on the heatshrink. If i use butt splices i will usually tape the whole gang of wires round and round, which makes it even less likely for something to come apart.

As a sidenote i got another head unit that will replace what i've got so it can go back in the beater. Hope like hell i used wire nuts on the last install
