can not make alpine type r fit in door
Sunday, August 13, 2006 4:06 PM
I have tried all most every thing i can think of. I can not make the alpine type r components that i bought fit in the door of my 04 sunfire. I have tried the adapters that you can get from crutchfield. I have tried the 3/4 mdf board and the speaker still hits the door panel and the window when it is rolled down. I called crutchfield and they said the 6 1/2 type r do not fit in the Q-Forms Kick Panel Enclosures for he 04 sunfire. I was wondering if any one can give me a suggestion on how i can mount these in the front of the car.

Thanks for the info
Josh

They will not fit unless you cut the door. Otherwise the rubber surround will rub and the cone can't move properly. Your only other option is to get the Q-logic kick panels available on crutchfield or sound domain. If you use the kick panels you'll have to space the speaker behind the mount.

I have 6.5" Boston Acoustics in the kick panels and they fit perfectly. If you recently purchase them and can return them. 6x4's will bolt right in to the stock location.

Um, make a set of adapters. There's a sticky at the top.

I made the adapters out of 3/4 mdf and that did not work it hit on the window and on the door panel.

It looks like i might be trying my had at some fiberglass. If any one can give me a good reference web site i would greatly appreciated it.

Thanks much

how deep are the type r's. My cdt hd mids are almost 3 inches deep and they just barely clear the window with a 3/4 mdf adaptor. Which i thought my mids were deep. I also noticed sunfires panels dont stick out as much as cavalier door panels, which is why my speaker doesnt rub the door panel with a 3/4 inch spacer. It might be time for some kick panels or some fiberglassing have fun.

They are 4 inches deep.

Type R's are massive.... the magnets are humongous! I had to mount my 6.5"'s on the outside of the door panel and cut the rest to fit.

Good luck!!!

You could use spacers to move the window track out some. That will help free up some more room. I had to use 1/2" spacers along with 5/8" mdf adaptor plates to fit my Focals in the doors.
