New car starter/ alarm help
Thursday, December 28, 2006 7:22 PM
Ok, so my gf bought me a 2 way paging system for my car(its a polarstart 7650). It is a lcd 2 way system with lock/unlock, start, alarm +1aux.

anyways, im getting it installed that the place that she bought it from,(everyone tells me to because of warrenty perposes) and its costing me 349 jus for instal just for all the alarm part of it.

currently my car does not have power locks, but when i went in to see how much a power lock kit was and they told me it would be and extra 550(installed) i jus about shat my pants.

so after goin to a couple other shops i was talkin to one of the techies and he told me that the starter i have has the lock / unlock, so if i put cylinoids in my car i would have the ability to lock/ unlock my car with the remote.(pick some up from the junk yard) and maually. all i would have to do is wire up the lock/ unlock stuff to the cylinoids..... he says that this is kinda how they do after market alarm w/ power lock installs to make it cheaper for broke kids like myself.

is this possible or was he jus feeding me crap?

Thnx in advance for any replyz

completely possible, but after market lock kits are 100 bucks, but you need to know how to install them, they are not plug and play

Its not how fast your car goes....its how much nerve the driver has to push it that fast.

They only thing is im not lookin to get an after market lock system, im lookin to hook up some stock cylinoids i could get from the junk yard to my car alarm, that way i would have keyless entry, but no buttons inside the car to lock/unlock

the reason why im thinkin i can do it this way is because the guy at the shop tol me instead of using normal lock kits at his shop they use car alarm "brains" and just hook up switches

buy door actuators they are like 40 bucks each from DEI or any reputable alarm company and they take maybe an hr to install on both doors. dont make it harder than it needs to be.

im serious. tho..

the most a job like that should run you. is. maybe $600 including the unit itself..

So all i need is the actuators(a few bucks a piece) and wires and i can run the power lock staright through my alarm(car did not have power locks originally) and just use the car alarm as the "brain" for the locks, and such?

yup exaclty,

get an DEI or audiovox system.. will be the best.. they give liifetime warrenties on the equipment, and if they are a liscenced dealer they usually offer life time on there installs too..

i ended up getting mad sensors like Digital tilt, glass sensor,Dual proximity motion sensor, and a trunk sensor, install for around $700 bucks including the APS 997 alarm system..

Great system, the pagers last basically for 5 yrs.. havent had a problem yet..!

where are you from??

Heres a link for the acutaors i Used dei 524t 10.99 each with 2 and shipping it ran me around $30.
My local shop charges $90 per door for these installed. most of there prices on there alarms include installation. I was slso going to get someone to install mine for me but they wanted $200-$250 to do it so I ended up doing it myself.

Do you have driver's door priority built into the unit? If not, you can get away with using just 2 relays. I'll even make you a drawing on how to wire them up.

When you hit lock, both doors will lock. When you hit unlock, both will unlock. Enjoy
