AIR BAG Light
Friday, January 05, 2007 11:53 AM
So do air bags for no reason at all deiced that they want to stop working? Because I have had no problems what so ever with mine. Never been in a wreck of any sort. This morning I went to take somebody to work and I started my car nothing out of the normal until my AIR BAG light decideds it wants to stay on. It has been on ever since, it still flashes a few times like normal then it just stays on. It is driving me nuts, I don't know anything baout air bag systems except they are super expensive to work on. Am I screwed on this without taking it to a dealer? Or are there a few things I could look into?

Be careful when checking anything to do with airbags. Always pull airbag fuse before you do anyhing else. You can try disconnecting and reconnecting harness connections(YELLOW CONNECTORS) Sometimes, if they are a bit damp or dirty the resistance will change enough to bring on the light. If you see no corrosion on the connectors plug 'em back in. If the light is still on check your passenger side floor and make sure it's not wet from a water leak. The SDM (airbag sensing and diagnostic module) is under the passenger seat and it does NOT like water. Those are the most common causes of airbag light on our cars. Hope this helps.

I know of the sensor under the passenger seat, I had to replace it one already from and exploding 2liter lol. But with personal experiance I know it is good because when those go out your seat belt light stays on even if you click your seatbelt together. So I know it is not that. I took it to a GM dealer and they want $185 just to hook it up and tell me what is wrong. F****** crooks!! Oh well I'll just start playing with stuff I guess.

unplug your battery for about 15 minutes, then hook it back up. start the car and see if that changes anything. you'd be surprised how many codes can be cleared by doing that.

I have noticed something new about my air bag light. It still goes on and off randomly, but one day as I was letting the engine warm up I started to turn the wheel. I noticed when I turned the wheel to the left at a certain point the light would go off and stay off until I turned it more either way. Whould would be causing this? It is so weird I have never heard of this before.

that to me sounds like a loose connection for sure. pull the airbag and check it out. to pull the airbag, theres 3 or 4 bolts behind the bag on the back of the wheel.

just make sue u unhook the battery, pull the fuse, hit the brakes a few times to drain all the juice from the electrical system and go to work. just be careful.

Yeah I was also thinking connection in the airbag on the steering wheel. But I have never messed with my steering wheel would it just all of a sudden just come lose for no reason?
