i dropped the face-plate for my sony head unit. it shattered the inner display glass into a million pieces. i'm so pissed! not because i spent a sh!t load of money on it, but because i cant seem to get any help replacing it now. it has a 2 year warranty from the factory, and an extended warranty from the dealer, but none of this will cover "accidental" damages.
i checked e-bay, but no one has just the face-plate. sony wants $130 to replace it, and the dealer.....well, screw them people. so i figure that i'm left with just a couple options. try to steal....err, i meant switch the display model's with mine from the dealer. they would just write it off anyways. not my first choice though. i could try to scam the post office into paying for it by shipping it back to sony insured, and then when it shows up "all of the sudden" broke, they pay for it. not too keen on that idea either. and i guess that finally i could get on here and hope that someone has a better idea.
i sure would appreciate any help of feedback that i can get.
i'd say re-read your warranty papers to make sure it says no accidental damages or whatever. They should honor it if it doesn't and you can prove it otherwise they're asshats. Other than that, i would just keep an eye on ebay, not much you can do i don't think. Or just deal with having a busted ass stereo.

you know what....screw you dude! maybe if you had read the second paragraph of original post, you would have seen what i said about my first option,"not my first choice...", and as to option two, "not too keen on that idea either...." so then i decided that my best bet was to, "get on here and hope that someone has a better idea."

Go buy it yourself.
Here's an idea. Go steal a whole new head unit out of a car! You don't have to worry about getting in trouble with a store manager, and you may even be able to upgrade! I'd say that's your best bet....
Just keep checking your local sony stealerships. Ask if they have any copies of your deck that have been returned and have a good faceplate.
Keep checking eBay.
Place a want-ad in your local newspaper/internet classifieds(that way someone ELSE can steal it

You say it was the "inner" glass? Is it a major structural piece? If not, you might as well rip the faceplace apart and take it out, then use it without the glass.

I was thinking... come park it in my neighborhood, leave the faceplate on... the thieves around here will steal it, and you get a new deck (minus your deductible, of course) from the insurance company...
Or, you could just buy a nice new deck off Ebay... I picked up mine for less than 1/4 of what stereo stores wanted for it (Alpine something or other deck.. it's loaded with features and really nice...)
i have a pioneer flip up touch screen with a removable face plate ....
the button always kept falling off and i swore i would crazy glue it ....
i lost it .... of course ... so i looked around ...
i didnt wanna pay 150 bucks for a new face plate because of a dam buttom
found that there was a small crappy a$$ lookin place that fixed all makes and models of car audio
they gave me a total break down of every single part serviced on the unit (parts manual)
even for the lcd display i could get the touch screen alone for replacement ..... ya u need sumone to do the work of
changing it and all ... but if u know a decent electronics guy ... its just a matter of takin off the old face of the face disconnect and remove the old display and connect and install the new display ...... (most are plug and play style connections so that the tech's who repair them dont have to soder and rewire it ... just unplug and replace)
