Just installed a new head unit and do not know too much about this kind of thing but I noticed that the CD, when I eject it, seems quite warm (thinking that the whole unit is getting hot). Never really noticed that on my old unit. Is this normal or have I installed it wrong. Are possible errors positive and negative speaker wire mix-up or could it be that I have the memory back up lead, bus power lead and power lead all connected to the same power source. Any help for a serious audio novice would be appreciated.
my cds get hot sometimes....havnt had any probolems...
i wouldnt expect it to cause any problems. if you got a smaller unit, such as a single din unit as apposed to the din and a half or double din units that come in our cars from GM, there may be less space for air and cooling in the actuall unit.
or, for example, you have a unit with alot more features or a flip out screen and what not... all those extra electronics have to go somewhere and they may cause more heat.
i wouldnt worry about it too much.

id say its ok. most cd players shut down if they overheat.
alos some less expensive models may not have a heat-sink on the back to cool it off.
flip out screens would be cooler temp because once the screen is out there is all that empty room.
I have my Alpine deck (CD-player), set up so the internal amp in the deck is off all the time because I power my speakers with an external amp. (which means a lot less heat being produced my the deck). Even with this setup, I've had CD's get pretty dang hot after they have been in there for awhile. As long as your stereo isn't shorting out, and your CD's arn't becoming warped, you should be fine.
Thanks for the info guys. I really appreciate your help. I'll let it be for now and see what happens. Nothing is melting or warping and the deck hasn't shut off nor has the fan come on (or atleast I don't think so). My last deck was entry entry level and had no gadets at all. This deck has quite a bit more so I'm hoping that's it. Thanks again.
