Well, to make a long story short, I burned out Pioneer head unit that I had. Due to a quick install because I wanted to hear my subs again, the positive wire going to the subs vibrated enough to fall out of the box and touch the remote turn on lead coming from my deck. Needless to say the built-in amp is fried. I'm looking at a new deck and can't seem to decide what I want. I have had two Pioneer cd decks in the past and have always had good luck with them. Never had a problem whatsoever. However, I can't decide if I want to go Pioneer or Alpine. I have around $200-$300 to spend.
At the moment, I am leaning towards Pioneer. Is there a big quality difference between Pioneer and Pioneer Premier? Here is the deck I'm looking at now: DEH-P690UB I like it mainly because I can plug in a jump drive to play my MP3's. That would be MUCH easier transferring songs than burning a new CD all the time. Anyway, let me know what you guys think.
And please don't suggest a Sony HU. I've had one of those before...the biggest piece of crap I have ever used....

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the specs on the rest of my audio system. All front and rear speakers have been replaced with Kicker speakers...model number slips my mind at the moment. And I've got 2 12" w6v2 JL subs powered by a Hifonics 1200 watt RMS amp.

Not a fan of the new Alpine decks since all but the top one has 2v outputs. Pioneer is pretty good. Personally I'm a fan of Eclipse.

I've had 3 Pioneer decks. Went to an equivalent Alpine and have hated it since install. My next deck will def be a Pioneer.

I stick to the $250 dollar range. or else your deck 5900Ib is comprable to my deck now. or the DEH-P590IB both great decks without blowing the bank. Especialy sice you need to fix your sub problem.
get the pioneer, i got the 4900ib and love it....4 volts out the rca for $180 cant get better than that. (i didnt pay that tho i work at BB) The only difference i know of for the premier decks is they have a 2 year warranty compared to a 1 year...and you get the i pod cable with the premier deck. Thats it....get the pioneer you'll love it...forget alpine....same priced decks dont compare....their $300 is the cheapest one with 4 volt output....GARBAGE....plus they only throw like 18 watts compared to 22 from the pioneer....and all pioneers throw 22 watts...(i got a 4 channel amp anyway....) Only advantage alpine has is their i pod cable technology is a little "faster" compared to pioneer meaning it will find the song you picked a little faster than pioneer....Go pioneer
Well, I just ordered the DEH-P6900UB. The 4 volt output was the only thing I was concerned with. But I looked at the specs of the standard Pioneer and the Premier version, and the spec sheet was exactly the same except for the 2 yr. warranty and the iPod cable was not included in the standard one. The pre-outs were 4 volts on both, which I was happy about, so I decided to save the money and buy the standard Pioneer one. I ended up ordering a 2GB Sandisk Cruzer pen drive also. (Main reason why I went with this model Pioneer deck) I am sick or burning CD's. The Bluetooth kit will be the next purchase. I wish Pioneer made a deck with both Bluetooth and USB built-in. Oh well. I'll let you guys know how I like it. It should be here by Tuesday.

get the pioneer 6950.it has 7 band equalizer, sub-out and aux jack input. i have that one.very nice.love it. but 7950 is better. only difference is in the 7950, there's a usb connection where you can connect flash drive(much easier to transfer mp3s) or your ipod. my friend has it.

Well, I already said I bought one so its too late now. But those models don't exist. Not American model numbers at least...They come up on Google, but in a different language....But the one I mentioned that I bought has the exact same specs as you mentioned...I don't think there is a difference other than a different model number, probably for a different country.

ildwes is right, you made a good choice. i have the 6950 installed in my car.i had kenwood before and it totally sucks, but don't have those big amps and subs, i only have pioneer 2channel 300watts amp and a 10" pioneer sub. but i'm quite satisfied considering i'm into sound quality

Yeah, I remember when the Premier line had 5 volt pre-outs. I figured why pay the extra money for a deck that looks exactly the same, same specs, only difference being an additional year warranty and a iPod cable I won't ever use. So I went with the standard line. Sure isn't much of a difference to make you wanna upgrade. Seems kinda weird to me.

DEH-P6900UB. a very nice h/u. a friend of mine has it, and i love it. if i had the extra money for one, i would defiantely be getting it in mine too.

ya my premier has 5 volt, geuss I was lucky enough to buy the older model before they cheaped out.
I love mine, only problem I ever had with it was the common poor ground issue on the rca's. I just grounded each rca out to the deck chassis and issue was resolved.
