the tach adapter splices INLINE of the coil hot. as in there's one wire that supplies the power for the coils. cut this wire, the side coming from the ecm goes to the red wire on the adapter, the red+stripe on the adapter goes to the other part of the wire you cut. the other three wires on the adapter are

black - constant ground
grey - tach signal
odd coloured - key on hot

He might not need a tach adapter. On my 96 there was a spot on the under hood fuse block simply labeled "TACH". I've only seen this on a few and never on anything newer than 97, but my 96Z did have this spot. Take a look. If you got it, you save yourself the money on the adapter.

of ot has a connector in it, thats where your tach signal feed is. on my 96, i have the spot, but no wire. if you have a z you have a factory tach, why add another?

i have that fuse slot so all i have to do is hook my tach signal to it and then bam im ready to go. Its not a z and no tach already.

there most likely wont be any connector in that slot. i took my fuse box apart to hide the wire that would be going to it, only to find out that there's no connector there, just an empty slot. you actually have to look into the hole and see whether or not there's a connector like you'd see if there was supposed to be a fuse there, i doubt there will be.
