2200 Tach Install(Need help)

I got the RKsport Tach Adapter...

http://www.rksport.com/main/part_detail.asp?itemid=424&appid=27&mdid=2&catid=6

and a Tommotorsport Tach...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-TACHOMETER-SMOKE-TINT-LED-52mm-GAUGE-JDM-JAPAN_W0QQitemZ230161495800QQihZ013QQcategoryZ33679QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Now the problem is I'm not getting a signal to the tach. When I crank the car, the tach lights up and the needle goes to 10k and then quickly back down to 0. I can't figure out why it's not working when both the tach adapter and tach are brand new.

I connected the black wire on the adapter to the orange wire on the plug and the red wire on the adapter to the white wire on the plug above the I.C.M. and ran the green wire from the tach adapter to the wire on the tach that's suppose to go to the coil. I have the tach properly grounded. The red wire on the tach apparently lights it up and the orange wire is supposed to go to the ignition but it really doesn't do anything to my knowledge.

I've got the tach set on 4(cylinders) and I've tried the others(0,3,5,6,8) so I've run out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially from someone who has used the RKsport tach adapter.

Listen the Tach lead is Normally the Purple with white stripe wire. Leading off of your Ign Module, tap into that wire and that is your signal for the tach, then run your power and grounds as normal.

You are supposed to hook tach adapters into the pink wire at the ICM on 2.2's and 2200's

If your lucky enough to have a 2.4, you don't need an adapter at all, you just wire into the white wire (pin 10, conector 2), at the ecm. You can also tap into one of the wires at the icm but I don't remember wich one. Maybee it's the one BioHazzard is talking about.

You people really need to specify engine type when asking questions like this.

Lmfao, the thread title is 2200 Tach Install and it's in my profile. But anyways, when you say hook into the pink wire, do I just connect both wires coming off the tach adapter to the pink wire?

BioHazzard: I believe without a setting for 2 cyl., I'll only get a reading of half of the actual rpm's if I hook into the purple wire with the white stripe. That's what I've read but it can't hurt to try it lol.

Oh... my bad

Sorry about that. I guess I just had a brain fart..

I took this off the Autometer web site.

Tachometer Signal Wire Installation
for 2.2L engine(s)
You will need a 9117 Auto Meter tachometer adapter. Locate the pink power wire at the ignition module, cut this wire in half and wire the adapter between the two cut halves. The adapter will then provide a good useable tachometer signal.

I'm assuming the adapter you have will work the same.

There ya are
